We've seen countless posts here at Destructoid regarding broken Xbox 360's, mainly due to the infamous RRoD. Well it's time to switch gears here folks. Today, I bring you very sad news. My 60 GB PS3 bit the dust today...
It happened as I was cleaning my apartment this afternoon. I was listening to music being streamed to my PS3 from my computer to help me stay motivated. While scrubbing the bathroom sink, the music suddenly stopped and I heard my PS3 make 3 quick beeps indicating it had reset itself. When I came to my living room to check on it, the red power light was flashing.
Shit.
I tried powering it back on again. The power light turns green, then briefly yellow, then back to the red flashing light. I've tried several remedies suggested on forums including taking out the hard drive, trying a different power outlet, etc., but to no avail.
Has anything like this happened to you guys? I did recently just upgrade my hard drive, but I made sure to get a 5400 rpm drive in case a 7200 rpm ran too hot. Apparently a red flashing light can indicate overheating, but at the time my PS3 bricked, it wasn't hot at all. Any advice would be appreciated, but I've already filled out the repair form to get this thing fixed.
In the meantime, please pour some of that 40 you're drinking for our fallen comrade. I'll be back online as soon as possible to roll with the DTOID PS3 crew. I'll miss you guys! (except Yojimbo)
Dude the same thing happened to me. I was playing a game though, and mine did the exact same thing yours did. Send it in. Took like 3 weeks to get it back. I got a 60g refurb back. Nothing I did could get it to work. Hope you backed up some of your saves.
Yeah, I remember you saying your PS3 died recently Corak. Good to know I'm not the only one. Luckily I have everything backed up on that 500 GB hard drive I have, so I just put the original 60 GB back in to send in to Sony.
Ouch! That sucks. I feel for you. Get well soon!
that sucks! i need to send mine in for repair here soon, its reading ps3 discs when its been off for a while or when i keep inserting and ejecting it will eventually read them, funny thing is its not giving me any error messages and will a ps2 disc instantly. its still working though so i won't send it in yet until it completely won't read a ps3 disc. shit happens and i take pristine care of it.
Shoot, I'm really sorry about that. :( It seems that all the problems are coming from the 60gb and 20gb models...
That really does suck. :(
As Pedrovay2003 says, nearly all the problems are coming from the 60gb and 20gb models. It's like Sony added a special firmware update to break the machines to take back the backwards compatibility! :O
Where are the snarky comments from 360 fanboys in here? Surely, if the roles were reversed...
Damn, it sucks to hear news like this. Hope everything works out for you.
Damn, that sucks dude. I hate to hear anybody being without their beloved console.
Also I wouldn't miss a gamer that constantly beat me in Street Fighter either.
:)
:( I wish your PS3 a quick recovery.
I'm not a fan of the PS3, but it still is a sad day in Gamerland when one's console bites the dust. =\ The worst part is that you got a backwards-compatible one, so here's hoping you get another on your replacement!
Thanks for the sympathy guys. I think I'm still in shock. This thing ran like a champ until yesterday. Definitely not looking forward to waiting to get it back, or the $160 I have to spend to fix it.
And just kidding Jimbo. It's always an honor getting my ass kicked by you in street fighter.
I'm going to kiss my 60gig goodnight tonight just incase....*Crosses fingers*
Sucks, sorry to hear it. I need to get on this whole backing up business, this has me scared for my ps3 now.
