The problem with Haze

With only one month left before release, free radical better get their shit together if they don't want this game to totally bomb. I got some playtime with what I assumed was the latest build of the game today and it was a terrible experience.

a) The guns felt too inaccurate, the assault rifle with the scope fails to hit anything past 50 meters.

b) Enemies are quite difficult to spot in the forestry environment, most of the time I waited until I was shot at until I shot back. Even the nectar doesn't help that much because it doesn't last very long.

c) The aiming in the game feels a little floaty, I admit I am not the best at FPSes with the sixaxis but I still managed to get through resistance without much difficulty.

but all those problems probably wouldn't break the game and could probably be quite easily fixed through a settings menu or small changes in the code. The main problem was with the framerate, it managed to average around 18fps through the whole 1hr I played. The framerate ruined the game for me, 25fps is what I consider the minimum fps should be for a fps and Haze didn't nearly meet it. The only time when the frame went above 20 was when I was looking at indoor environments and even still it never broke 28, considering most of the game is going to be set outdoors it would ruin the game playing through it at 18fps.

Also they are bloody idiots for putting a fps counter on the bottom right of the screen of the build I played, look everyone! our game runs like shit and we can prove it!

At least the game loads kinda quickly....

Just curious as to how and where you played this build of the game? Not trying to be a dick, but you did not make any actual mention of where you were and why you were there.

AGS 07 in Hong Kong

The queues for the FPS games were very short so I got alot of time with them. Also played other games like Little Big Planet, the new locoroco game and DMC4.

I'm interesting in seeing how the game turns out only because its made by Free Radical. Over the summer I was excited for the game, but hearing about its problems and the meh gameplay I've lost that feeling of want. If it turns out to be a decent game I'll probably pick it up, I just hope that they can get it together and make it great.

Haze is a game thats never really interested, partly cause they revealed the huge "twist" about a week after they annouced the game lol, even assassin's creed was kept under tight wraps in that respect. Seriously games developers are trying to become M. Night Shymalan these days!

Interesting from what I've seen of clips of actual gameplay I didn't see the Framerate (18 fps..lol..what, had a stopwatch? ) dips your mentioning happen to you. I'll reserve judgement when they have something out. I'm more excited by another Timesplitters than this game but it is made by the same team so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
