I have a 8800GT and it works beautifully. I'd say go with the 8800GT then you can always sli that too later if you needed too.

8800

8600 is a horribly crippled machine: it was designed for the mainstream market. 8800GT is, aside from the GTX, the most potent thing on nVidia's roster right now, and one will more than compensate for those 8600s.

i already have one of those 8800 GT's, and imho you will be much happier running the single card over 2 mediocre cards in SLI.

Well I'll give you the long explanation and let you decide. The 8800GT is more powerful then the 8600GT. SLI rarely gives a significant advantage except at really high resolutions. I'm running an 8800GT on my 19inch wide screen monitor at 1440x900 and it runs like a charm on stuff like TF2 and Bioshock. So I would recommend the 8800GT personally.

Knowing Your Geforce Card (in order of importance):

Know the Acronym:

GTX > GTS > GT

Higher Numbers Are Better - the higher the number the better the care

More Memory is better

So....a 128 meg Geforce 8600 GTX is better than a 256 meg Geforce 8800 GT. Understand?

They just came out with the 9600GT which is cheaper but has comparable performance. You may wanna look into that as an option. I'm just sayin.
