Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Say no more Brother.
It played fine, it was just repetitive.
I guarantee you now it plays better than this one, due to it being made by a company who has been making Devil May Cry for longer than the new company has existed as a whole.
Devil May Cry 2 was crap. Everybody hated the fact that Dante wasn't trash-talking, hated the fact that the game took itself as seriously as it did, and hated the crappy gameplay.
If this new iteration is taking cues from Devil May Cry 2, fans have very good reason to be worried.
I guess I'm going to go against the whole of the people responding here.
design is pure looks, all you need it know is what it looks like

Ever take an art class in your life? Design is NOT pure looks. What goes into a design, especially of characters and technology/weapons, is who they are, what they represent, how they fight, etc. This is why Nomura catches so much shit for his designs because he ignores a vast majority of those things. If you even LOOK at concept art, you'll notice how much a character changes according to how the characters role changes. A great character design is NOT just what they look like.
Don't the fans of the series have a important voice?
They do, but they really shouldn't. Why? This right here. You know NOTHING about the game, never touched it, never watched gameplay, don't know the story, even the world in which this reboot takes place is 100% a total fucking mystery to you idiots, and here you are judging on basically less than a minute of information. This is why the fans shouldn't have a voice, because otherwise nothing will ever change and the same people demanding Capcoms head over this are THE EXACT SAME CUNTS boohooing over sequelitis.
it's not nearly as bad-ass as the previous iteration
Really? So a Homoerotic Deadpool is badass to you? Of course the whole deadpool aspect didn;'t come in until the third anyway... aww fuck it. You just have Spheroth Syndrome where you prefer shirtless effeminate males lugging around ridiculous swords. It would be one thing if Dante's initial design was actually, say, good. Instead he looked like something during a Joe Mad run on Witchblade. This one is actually better, at least from first glance.
Heavenly sword was ok, but i hold dmc to a higher standard, then a developers first game ever, makes me nervous when companies hand off ip's to sorta untested developers. Which i think is a fair concern.
Sort of untested? Okay... you're done. Especially considering our common complaint about Capcom is lack of polish and quality. Yo, that RE5 was the shit, dawg. But we just can't trust our precious flailing franchise with another developer...
Also, Rocksteady Games... Arkham Asylum = Their First Game... so fuck right off with preconceptions. Most developers are only as good as their budget. So manybe instead of pointing the finger at Ninja Theory over the upcoming disaster (1 minute of footage...), you should be pointing them at Capcom urging them to give Ninja Theory as much time and money as they need.
In essence, consider this. If you THINK you know anything about the upcoming game, you don't. You really, really, really don't. We barely know the story, the gameplay is a mystery, the character BARELY SPEAKS in the short clip (thus, "we miss trash talking" comments should rightfully be bashed), and you guys have already written it off. How dare Capcom, THE OWNERS OF THIS FRANCHISE, take a risk with it when the series has serious diminishing returns issues. Wait, you're Capcom fans... that's why Street Fighter IV became less about new challengers and more about returning favorites. Because GOD FORBID you try something new (see also "no Frank West" controversy)
The reboot is unnecessary. It was one game that was only "bad" because of the repetition in the level design. People who compare him to Sephiroth miss the entire point of Dante's character. Sephiroth also wore a shirt so yeah. And it would be Cloud who has the giant sword. And Cloud wasn't the first JRPG character with a giant, nor was he the first Final Fantasy character with a giant sword.
It's unnecessary in your opinion. DMC3 saved the franchise, but it was only a temporary reprieve. DMC4 didn't do anywhere near the numbers Capcom wanted it to do. And considering the controversy behind it, I didn't expect it to either.
Plus, you forget something. Gamers currently have this "Fuck Japanese Games" mentality that is making Japanese Developers VERY afraid of being Japanese Developers. While you think the reboot is unnecessary, this game now is getting more attention than DMC5 would have.
