Game Run! 7/20/08- Inindo, Wonderboy, and Crusader of Centy
jackal27 | 12:34 AM on 07.21.2008 8 comments

I'm a retro gamer, but I hate ordering things over the internet. So, about every week or so, I do a "game run" when I'm in town, systematically going to every store that sells used games and seeing what I can dig up. I usually find at least one good deal, however, I've never had a place to express my excitement for the treasures that I uncover until now...

Game Run! 7/20/08

1. Inindo: Way of the Ninja

System: SNES
Store: Game Xchange
Price Paid: $9.95

So, after running to every game store in my town and finding NOTHING today, I didn't think I was going to have anything to write about... Until I came to Game Xchange... Apparently some people has decided to sell their entire collections of SNES, Genesis, and NES games. It was the motherload! They had to add two extra carts to hold all the games! There was also a pile of SNES carts stacked on a shelf and after making some "EEEEEE!!" noises, I began to rifle through them... Until I came upon this beauty. I have been looking for Inindo for MONTHS!! and it always seemed to disappear before I could buy it... Until today! $9.95 was a fair price for a game this excellent as well.

If you haven't played the game...
... it's probably the most underrated RPG on the SNES, being quickly overshadowed by it's prettier, more polished counterparts. The graphics are awful and the music is nothing to write home about, yet even with that being said, Inindo is a very unique and fun game. It's a ninja RPG that features all your basic classic RPG elements like random encounters and turn-based battles, with some spice thrown in. It would take me a LONG time to list all of it's features but here are a couple of my favorites. You can build friendships with people you meet while staying at an inn and then recruit them to your team... Or you can attack them... You can take up vigilante work, spying on people, and working as a soldier. The battle system has some unique twists as well. If you get a chance to play this game, definitely try it out. It's a little light on the story, but the gameplay is top-notch.

2.Wonderboy in Monster World

System: Sega Genesis
Store: Game Xchange
Price Paid: $1.95

This game was a really good deal! I love the Wonderboy series. It's so cute and simple. I had played this game on the Master System, but never on the Genesis, so I was pleasantly surprised with just how superior this version was. Plus, you can't beat that price tag! I mean come on! The game sells for $8.00 on the Virtual Console!

If you haven't played this game...
... think Maple Story. It's a side-scrolling action RPG with very colorful graphics and simple, yet very fun gameplay. You jump, you attack, and you cast spells... That's about it! It's not worth anything over $5.00 in my opinion, but it's still a great game.

3.Crusader of Centy

System: Sega Genesis
Store: Game Xchange
Price Paid: $4.95

I was really excited when I found this game in a stack of Genesis carts and even though it was covered in stickers from Crown Video and other used game stores, I had to buy it. It's one of those games that I've had on an emulator, but really wanted to actually own. $4.95 is a good price for what you get with this game too.

If you haven't played this game...
... it's a Zelda clone, there's no denying that. However, it brings it's own things to the table as well and if you're going to imitate a game, Zelda is most certainly a good choice (Neutopia anyone?). It also has what might be the most beautiful graphics on the Genesis... It utilizes rotating sprites and layers very well despite not having the graphical power of an SNES. This little game seems to pump the Genesis to it's limits. It's a decent game, but a little on the slow side and the music is... Bleh... However, I enjoy it and I'm really excited that I was able to find it.

SUMMARY!?

It must have been a day for Action RPG's or something, because they were obviously in abundance. However, I wish that I would have had a bit more money on me considering I also saw copies of Kirby's Dream Land 3, 7th Saga, and Secret of the Stars all for $20.00 along with Dynamite Heady for $1.95 and a SLEW of other amazing games. I'm happy with my purchase though and hopefully I some of the games I wasn't able to get will still be there in a week or two.

Nice pull, I think I'll have to check out a few of these.
And, do you mean the GameXchange on range line?

Awesome haul. I loved Inindo back in the day; it was the first RPG I bought for my SNES.

Does your Game Xchange actually give you cases for games? The locations in Oklahoma City give out these garish yellow cases.

I love living in Joplin, hahaha. So many good game stores here. I just wish Game Co. and Game Crazy were both still here. Game Co. had the cheapest games ever.

Oh, man!! I have fond memories of waking up early in the morning and playing through Wonderboy with my cousin. I always loved Pygmy land or whatever the hell it was called.

I feel like playing it now, but VC titles are so over priced!!

 about me

I'm mostly a retro gamer. I don't hate everything after the 90's, but I tend to prefer retro game design. I enjoy alot of indie and portable games, not to mention a blockbuster title every now and then. However, like I said, the majority of my gaming takes place on older consoles.
