I know I haven't posted in a while, there are many reasons for this, but I'll get into them later. For now let's just get into it.

I'm hearing a lot of people all over the place complaining about the DSi. About how they don't like the camera, or the SD-slot, or the fact that it doesn't have a GBA slot, and FINALLY that it has shorter battery life than the DSlite. All of those complaints can be answered quite easily... Stick with your DSlite!

I think that the new DS has a plethora of awesome new features and even if some of them (the camera) are a bit unnecessary that doesn't make them BAD additions by any means. No, I think the main complaints are with the things that have been taken away from the DSi. Namely the GBA-slot and the battery life. First of all, if you want to play GBA games you can play them on your GBA, GBASP, GBA micro, DS(fat), DSlite, Gamecube Gameboy Player, OR using emulation. So that issue is fairly ridiculous to me. I remember when the DS was coming out, everyone was pissed because it wouldn't play Game Boy Color games, but we moved on just fine.



SO! Really, the main problem is the battery life, but when I was reading a comparison article at Kotaku I noticed something...

If you look closely, you'll realize that the DSi has MORE brightness options. So I came to a couple of conclusions. What if they just added a brighter light and the "normal" setting on the DSi was more like the DSlite's high brightness setting? That wouldn't be much of a drop at all. Actually, I know that's most likely not the case. However, the fact remains that there's an extra brightness option which could mean any number of things.

Who plays their DS at full brightness anyway!? I turn mine down to a very low setting most of the time. I think the battery issue is pretty ridiculous, especially when you compare it to all the other new features that Nintendo is including. I still charge my DS about once a day, even if it's not almost empty, just to make sure that it doesn't run out. I also, generally, don't play it outside of my dorm or my house (or anywhere with an outlet) for more than a couple of hours, so I don't think that having my DS die on me will be something I run into often if ever. I'm sure I'll be able to muscle through with the DSi. I don't see the point in complaining about a new model of an already existing console, especially if you're not going to buy it.
