In my social circle, small as it may be, it has become commonplace to associate typical college procrastination with MMOs, especially WoW.
However, this is where I immediately find myself the odd man out. Being the game connoisseur that I am, I should be able to play often, and enjoy World of Warcraft. I have no reason not to. It has its massive world, player base, and community. I have plenty of friends who play and, most importantly, I'm not paying for my subscription. But in some strange irony, I simply can't find the impetus to play. The game tends to become dry and dull within each hour I spend on the game. So now I must investigate this anomaly;
why do I find this game boring when, for all intents and purposes, it should keep me moderately entertained?
The only theory I can find is the fact that since I'm
not paying for it, there's no real obligation to play. I'm not really wasting money by not playing so I feel no remorse for it. I figure, I shouldn't let something like this bother me. I should be glad I'm not addicted and the game will always be there if something drastically changes and I
need to play the game.
I'll just stick with my Team Fortress 2

Other people get hooks by the social aspect, the grinding, the battlegrounds, collecting pets, whatever... A lot of WoW's success is that it has a bit of something for everyone. Consider yourself lucky you're not hooked. That game was a huge timesink for me.
Also, PvP or PvE server? Some would argue that the constant fear of random death on a PvP server adds to the experience.
... I need a g/f. :(
No problem; don't play. The only problem is if you feel that for some reason you should be playing -- but if you don't have a reason, then ... why play?
The only reason I play is because it's a way for me to play co-op in a game. I can (and do) play Team Fortress, but I'm working against another team of people. You can do that in WoW, but the part I like is co-op against some big monster or something.
If your friends play, but it isn't something that defines them and thus leaves you feeling lonesome, then don't play. (And if you do feel peer pressure to play, because you're feeling left out, try to get your buds to play a different game. WoW seems to eat 1 out of every 5 souls.)
I don't see what's complicated about this.
