I am not a Potter-phile. I've always found the Harry Potter movies to be a bit lacking (in acting and plot), and up until a couple of weeks ago, only read the first book in it's entirety. Once the 7th book came out, however, I felt this urge to finally read these books and see what people were so batshit insane over.
Of course, I thought, why not read them all through, back to back? What better way to get the whole experience than to go batshit insane myself?
Yes, I thought that was a good idea as well, thank you.
So anyway, while I've been reading, my roommate has had a thirst for some cheap entertainment, and of course, turned to torrents! He decided to download several choice movies that he had been meaning to see, one of which was
Evan Almighty, the sequel to the Jim Carrey movie that came out a few years ago. It features a rival news caster from the previous movies, Evan Baxter, who just was elected to Congress, trying to work out the kinks of his new profession and his family life, etc etc. This is before, of course, God (Morgan Freeman) appears before and tells Evan that he must build an Ark because a flood is coming (awkward). Knowing well ahead of time that it would be a 'family romp silly lol' movie, I watched anyway, due to the fact that I like Steven Carrel, but mostly because I was tired from reading (5 books in a week, awesome).
So anyway, near halfway through we are enjoying the movie somewhat when the scene turns to a bar/restaurant location that has a television in the corner on Comedy Central. The camera cuts to this television where a fake episode of the "Daily Show" is playing, wherein the host of the Daily Show, Jon Stewart, is making fun of Evan Baxter for building an arc to a positive studio audience.
Well, I can't be too sure... I think it was Jon Stewart. I could definitely
hear him, but I couldn't see him behind the
huge spoiler for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Yep..
netgraffiti.tk decided to really kick being-an-internet-asshole up a notch and encode 2 spoilers for the last Harry Potter's book
in the release of a family comedy. While Jon Stewart is talking in the background, two messages in white text on a black background flash up on the same screen, flushing Jon out of the picture. These spoilers (although really not all that big of a deal in comparison to the 6th book spoilers - thanks Something Awful) sit silently on the little tv, as if they were supposed to be there all along. Wow, just... wow!
I tell you, if it wasn't so goddamn funny, I would be really, really pissed off right now. What do you guys think?
I still have to read them all, and even the BBC spoiled book 6 for me because JK Rowling had to ask some kid what made her sad. And the kid says "I cried when <name> died". I'm sure that when the movie hits in 2010, I'll know all spoilers by heart..
Nothing comes close to the drama over the last book though. That was epic.
Also, the books start to get less kiddy around the 3rd one. Stick with them.
