Nier's OST Is Like Chocolate Melting On The Tongue of God

I have a theory about Nier (in the Gestalt flavor, at least): Square Enix and Cavia had to decide between making the game visually attractive or making it sound like a heavenly cacophony. They decided this fate with a simple coin toss. Heads - it would be visually stunning, Tails - it would be an auditory orgy of sonic goodness the likes of which no video game has ever been subjected to. If you've heard any of Nier's two-disk soundtrack, you already know how that coin toss ended.

I could sit here and type out how awesome-awesome-awesome I think this soundtrack really is or you could just click on the youtube vids below and decide for yourself (while Youtube allows it). note:

Dtoid's bbcoder is giving me the usual 'Assertion failed: bad pk' error...so it'll just be links to youtube. Sorry! >_<

Eidos' Ca$hWhore Saga Pt. 2

Instead of getting a press release from publisher Eidos glorifying their upcoming Batman game Arkham Asylum as the pinnacle of all multiplatform gaming experiences, we're greeted by today's Kotaku offering:

Several mags have their review code already, but have to sit on their reviews until a hateful embargo expires at the end of the month. But Eidos, ever the helpful fellows that they are, have been offering a way around this embargo. If you dedicate the cover of your mag to Arkham Asylum and guarantee a score of at least 90%, Eidos will allow you to run the review early.

Hopefully their upcoming assimilation by Square Enix will flush away the unethical turds in Eidos' toilet and start anew with a fresh, shiny bowl. Or it might make the whole stink worse if it backs up over the seat. Either way, it might take a lot of Lysol to get rid of that stench. Kane and Lynch, anyone?   read

SR2 DLC Pack #2: Customizable Ronin Jacket

One of my favorite parts of Saints Row 2 was the in-depth character customization. It's one of the reasons I chose it over GTA4 [note: pasty Russians are pasty]. There was one very special piece of virtual clothing missing which would further set off my gothy Asian pimp-ninja gangsta character's style: That Goshdamned Ronin Jacket. Volition's throwing it into SR2 DLC pack 2, along with more character customization options, some new vehicles and what hopefully(!) will be some fun new missions. Are you prepped to part with $7 [or 560 MS points]? While I love the idea of a customizable Ronin jacket, it smells like an unlock to me.

The monotone-voiced developer blog revealing the DLC pack's other content can be viewed at http://community.saintsrow.com/blogs/?p=551.

It looked hot on the enemies as I mowed down their yakuza-wannabe asses, it'll look hot on my avatar.

Seriously, it looks more like armour than a mere gang jacket.

Speaking of armor...hockey masks and chainsaws..

Again with the effing bandanas??   read

FUEL Should Look Like This, Sound Custom

I could've sworn that upcoming post-apocalyptic racing extravaganza FUEL featured weapon-laden vehicles. This important tidbit remains unconfirmed, even as I scour the intertubes in search of some hint of its existence. Without guns, it's just another open-world racing game featuring 5,000 sq. miles of traversal distance. Doesn't every game have that naow?

I'm also hoping it'll have that one extra magic thing which would make it a must-buy for me: custom soundtracks, ala Burnout Paradise. And maybe Ace Hunter - Post-Apocalyptic Ladies Man/Hero.

Also, DEEDS NOT WORDS.

Underwhelming Saints Row 2 DLC Wave 2 Teaser Is Underwhelming

Volition's answer to my insatiable hunger for fresh Saints Row 2 DLC appears to consist of...two purple bandanas. Gaze in abject awe at their undeniable blandness.

Despite the fact that their first wave of DLC didn't quite live up to my skyhigh expectations - I was hoping for a new island, new gangs to kill, Gary Busy portraying an aging hitman with a heart of gold - I'm still hoping Volition can pull something new out of their bag of tricks for DLC waves two and three. Preferably this will happen before Red Faction: Guerrilla hits my PS3. That's when I'll be trading in 3rd Street drivebys for a sandbox of the red variety.   read

Xmas Day Cat-astrophe

My emotionally high-maintenance cat decided the best way to wish me a Merry Christmas was to drop two of my DVD/video game-heavy aluminum shelves on my ankles as I slept. The victims - three full shelves of DVD's, two full shelves of video games, a printer and two external HDD's - all survived the fall unharmed. A surprisingly high number of older games ended up near my head, perhaps hinting that they should be played again sometime during this century.

I give it a solid 7.0 for presentation, 8.0 for style, but only a 3 as I survived the twisted metal carnage.

SW:TFU - Why Do The Brightest Stars Burn Out The Quickest?

TheForce.net has an excerpted review* of the Wii variant of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed which praises the controls, but notes that the game is heartbreakingly short. As in six hours. I/m pondering the possibility of there being any downloadable content [for the PS3/XB360/PSP] and, if any, what's it gonna cost us?

BTW, if you haven't read the graphic novel and spoiled the suspense of the game's canonical, Lucas-approved ending, scroll down a wee bit and you'll get an idea of the game's ending. Oh shock.

Yeah, like you didn't see that coming.

Bad Santa: Angry Dad Sells Son's $100 Game For $9,100

A Canadian dad can thank his teenage son's enjoyment of pot for helping him rake in a smooth $9,100 for a copy of Guitar Hero III on eBay. Dad recently purchased the game in an online bid for the sum of $100 as a Christmas present for this kid. Upon catching his offspring partaking in the magical minifestival that is 420, dad decided that the kid no longer deserved the popular rhythm game for Xmas. The winning bid belonged to an Aussie buyer with exceedingly deep pockets, who also seems to like weed, considering his insanely high bidding amount.
