Underwhelming Saints Row 2 DLC Wave 2 Teaser Is Underwhelming
ikiryou | 1:49 PM on 05.07.2009 13 comments

Volition's answer to my insatiable hunger for fresh Saints Row 2 DLC appears to consist of...two purple bandanas. Gaze in abject awe at their undeniable blandness.

Despite the fact that their first wave of DLC didn't quite live up to my skyhigh expectations - I was hoping for a new island, new gangs to kill, Gary Busy portraying an aging hitman with a heart of gold - I'm still hoping Volition can pull something new out of their bag of tricks for DLC waves two and three. Preferably this will happen before Red Faction: Guerrilla hits my PS3. That's when I'll be trading in 3rd Street drivebys for a sandbox of the red variety.

This is just a sneak peek of the DLC, as the original post at the liked site said. At least, I hope that's what it is.

@Ron, but isn't it seriously underwhelming? Shouldn't they be trying to excite us and make us scream needlessly at the monitor "Here! Take my muthafrakkin monay!!"? Fellow Gamers of the World, am I so wrong for wanting more out of our DLC? We pay cash for that shite!

For the time being, I'm staying optimistic and guessing that they have a bit more up their sleeves. The site is boasting this as "first screenshots." If this were all that was in the DLC, it would probably read more along the lines of "This is the DLC pack announcement, this is everything in the pack" or whatever. I think this pack is going to have a little more than a bandanna. I could be wrong though.

Ikiryou: You're not wrong. Saints Row 2 is still my favorite game of this generation. I've played around 75 hours of it (35+ in co-op) and, while I don't regret buying Ultor Exposed, it's profoundly disappointing. I'm not sure I've ever been so disappointed with a video game in my life. They even managed to make me like Saints Row 2 a little less because of the experience.

They seemed to completely miss what's great about Saints Row when doing that pack. They put in three terrible missions (seriously, they're the worst in the game BY FAR), some multiplayer maps that NO ONE will even look at, some (mostly bleh) character customization options, and a handful of vehicles that actually detract from the game rather than add to it.

What they should be focusing on is adding diversions. Those are really the meat of the game as far as I'm concerned. And give us some fucking reward for it! If you want to add new vehicles, don't put them in the garage put them in the world and add a chop shop so we have a reason to hunt them down. Hell, make them SUPER hard to acquire. I don't care, that's what's fun about the game. It's got ridiculous, over-the-top style combined with a fun mechanic, and just enough of a collection aspect to keep you going without burning you out on it so you don't want to keep playing the game.

Ultor Exposed not only dropped all of the good parts, but it burned out in an instant. Did anyone spend more than an hour on the content in there? Because at $35 I spent less than 50 cents/hour on the main game and paying 20x that for easily the worst content in Saints Row 2 goes beyond disappointment.

That said, if these bandannas account for less than half a percent of DLC pack 2 I wouldn't mind having them.
