At 120+ Star in Super Mario Galaxy 2

Tonight I beat Super Mario Galaxy 2 with 120 stars and then only started towards the 240 mark before ending my gaming tonight. It's not really a surprise, but Galaxy 2 is a great game so far, one of the best on the Wii. The challenge was almost always there for me but it was never so overwhelming that I ever felt like I couldn't get a single star. Most of my deaths were simply error on my behalf and sometime continuous error for 10 or 20 lives. Because lives are so plentiful I never Game Over-ed for the first 100 or so stars. It was only at the tail end of the first 120 stars that I saw the game over screen more than a few times because lives don't carry over from play session to play session, so if you turn off the game you start back with 5 lives. I could have easily farmed a whole bushel of lives at what I call Starship Mario's Casino, but I was too lazy and focused of getting those last few stars. Frankly, I wasn't expecting to use as many lives as I did to get the last 7 stars I needed tonight.

As far as game particulars; Super Mario Galaxy 2 is one of the most visually stunning and appealing games I have ever played even when compared to HD games.

Power-Ups

Fire Flower: Wish it wasn't timed.

Rock Mushroom: I like this one a lot too. Bowling with this was a nice touch.



Bee Mushroom: Still a little lame.

Drill Bit: Drilling though the ground was fun, nice change in gameplay.

Cloud Flower: Great, really like how it makes Mario a little floaty.



Spring Mushroom: Difficult to control, maybe too difficult, would rather have a Boot.

Boo Mushroom: Pretty much pointless, only used once and not interesting.



Luigi is back, I tend to use him a lot just because I like him.

Yoshi is new to the Galaxy series and more useful than ever. His power ups are gained by eating different fruits and are all implemented well.

Most of the levels were great, some just good. The only galaxy I didn't like was the Sunshine Galaxy, I thought it was boring. I also would rather have the Jibberjay gliding galaxies and the Star Ball galaxies be parts of other galaxies and not stand-alone, but they are still fun.

Now, the only question is...

Now that I finished the first 120 stars, do I take a break from Super Mario Galaxy 2 and play one of my many other games that are waiting to be played, or do I keep going and get the second 120 stars?
