MMO gaming on consoles isn't new. It's been around since the last generation of console hardware; thank Phantasy Star Online on the not-so-fortunate Dreamcast for that.
What's sad though, is that it seems that the concept of online gaming on consoles is something that isn't catching on in my country. I wouldn't blame the local gamers, I blame the economy. The cost of entry for online gaming on Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network is just a bit too steep.
I don't know. Maybe I don't know the right people. Maybe I'm just not aware of the hundreds of Filipino XBOX Live members ...or whatever. What I do know is that the sight of a console connected to a broadband connection is close to non-existent in these here parts. Even the expensive gaming centers at the arguably "high-end" areas only have PS2s and old Xbox's in stock.
It's just sad really. Xbox Live's been out for what seems to be an eternity and Sony's trying their darnest to get their PlayStation Network together. Sony even has PlayStation Home ready - so ready that they've started to
use the ban hammer on the rowdier folk (you may be able to have sex with polygon kittens on Second Life but not on the PSN). Moreover, there's stuff like WarHawk, Tekken 5 Onine, blah blah blah, so on and so forth.
At least there's a flood of generic Korean PC MMORPGs to enjoy. Phhhbbt.
