Screw Microsoft and their xbox live

A week a go a I canceled my xbox live because they charged my credit card a year subscription when i did not want them to. Thanks to that my credit card got an overdraft fee because i only had a $7 dollars on my account so thats why i had to cancel it. They told me that they would refund my money into my credit card and the bank told that if i received the refund they would not charge me an overdraft.

So yesterday i received an email saying that my account has been changed from a year subscription to a monthly subscription. I called them today and told them to that i wanted my refund of the monthly subscription and to cancel the whole thing that way i would not receive an overdraft. The guy told that no they can't refund me the money since its a monthly fee.

This is what they did:
3/28/2008 XBL Charged me for renewal $53.99
3/31/2008 bank Overdraft $27.00
3/31/2008 refund bank Overdraft $27.00
3/31/2008 XBL Refund $44.91

The Refund that they gave me had the monthly taken out already so I had to go to the bank and deposit some money into my account just so i would not get an overdraft. If any of you have canceled an account on xbox live make sure that the account is still canceled because, if it is gold that means you are still getting charged. Just like yesterday i told my friend that his old account that he does not use was still gold even though he had already canceled it.

Are you sure you canceled your account before they charged you? Because XBOX Live works like your cable or internet bill. They wont stop until you call and cancel. If not, that's your own fault.

I have heard where they attempt to take it out multiple times after you have cancelled your subscription. Thanks for the heads up because I am cancelling in May.

This is why I buy prepaid subscription cards. That way no one has any access to my information.

Yeah, do the cards. Paying ANYTHING with automatic credit deduction is too risky for obvious and not-so obvious reasons.

And you had only $7 in your account because? Should have canceled the account when you dropped under $100. 99% of banks have a $100 minimum on checking/debit accounts anyway and charge you fees for being under that minimum.

As much as I am a Microsoft hater, I can't help but think you previously had a year-long subscription and forgot to cancel it before they charged you.

This is more of a common sense issue of not having automatic withdrawals from an account that doesn't have a sufficient amount of cash.

Next time you need to sign up for a year subscription, wait for it to confirm the payment, then immediately cancel the account. It'll be good for a year, and you won't have to worry about forgetting to cancel it 12 months later, or just buy the year long Live card.

If I ever get over draft fees I have no one to blame but my self. I never let my account go under 1k now and if it does I start to freak lol.

I did call them and canceled it but they just changed the plan. Even when i called them today and told them to cancel it they were telling me ok that they would cancel it and that i would not receive anymore charges, but at the end off the conversation I told him so i am not going to get charged again right and he said "oh so you want to cancel the whole thing" even though i was arguing about the whole time about canceling it the whole subscription.

For the people that wanted to know why i only had $7 dollars it was because i had just paid for something that cost me $600 dollars

Bummer. Another good reason to buy the subscription cards rather than charge it to your credit card though.
