Quake II is scary
hygraed | 2:16 AM on 10.21.2008 11 comments

I'm playing Quake II for the first time, and either I'm just a huge pussy or id did a very good job of making this game frightening. I'm walking down a corridor and I hear a growl from somewhere and I seriously jump in my seat. I probably need to man up, but goddamn, id knew how to make a video game back in the day.

I don't know what "scary" is...you see...I am a robot and don't understand feelings....

Killer7 was scary but not in the traditional sense. It fucked me up for like a month.

Quake 2 was brightly colored and all about showing off what OpenGL could do. (Hence the nice looking sky boxes and all that thar pretty 'splosions)

I dunno, call it personal preference but it didn't really scare me all that much.
I think the sequal (Q4) did a better job of those twitch/jump reaction moments.

But, yes, you're being a pussy. Man up and beat it so you can at least move on to Quake4 :P

What.

The only series that can be considered "scary" is the Silent Hill series. I've played Quake 2, and it was more action than horror

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
