...or so says the sultan of spin at Sega of America.

"Sega of America PR Director Charlie Scibetta is currently looking into the trademark issue and why it was updated. In the meantime he told us that Sega "has no plans to get back into the console business," adding, "We're very happy being a platform agnostic company and have moved up the ranks the past three years from #11, to #9, and now stand at #6 in terms of our market share by units among third-party publishers. We like our current strategy and have no plans to change in the middle of this outstanding growth."

Well, so much for all the 9/9/9 conspiracy theories and DC nostalgia c-blogs. It's a pity though, Sonic HD would rock so hard on the DC2. That is, if this was Narnia.

Source.

Oh hell. We need that though. We need a DC2 to live and breathe with a true Sega experience.

Yeah that was my thoughts too but seriously, do you even think there's room for another console, given the current market scenario?

I think there is room for another system in the market as long as its not more of the same. A better interface with the player is needed. The wii pushed us in that direction but the wiimote is falling short on expectations.

The Wiimote falling short? i take it that you haven't played Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3. Superlative use of the Wiimote imho.

MP3's controls are really nice.

@helios
I haven't played either but your the second person in as many days who have told me that controls are really good in MP3. Hopefully during the holidays!

I would say that I have been generally disappointed with the interface because of games like Zelda. Twilight Princess could have been great with large sweeping sword cuts as your actions but you end up shaking the remote like an idiot to get your frag in. I feel that there is a real lack of skill and connection with what is happening on screen. And this blows any possibility of really good immersion. Too achieve this we may need something better hardware wise then the wiimote.

Having said that, it may too early to judge if the hardware is enough to do really good gesture recognition. Playing games like Smooth Moves, the wiimote did shine in a few minigames but only in really narrow ways. Hopefully with time the AI doing the recognition will get alot better. I am not saying the wiimote sucks(because it has been revolutionary) but I did expected it to do alot more across a broad spectrum of games.

Are the controls in MP3 and Galaxy the same in any ways? Why are they so good?

The controls on SMG and MP3 are a tad similar, though i have to say it was extremely easy to get used to SMG's controls over MP3's but after getting used to the controls of either game, MP3's felt more fluid and second nature-like in comparison. To put it bluntly, the controls are perhaps the best i've come across in a first person adventure and a 3D platformer ever.

Wow that is a fantastic statement.

I'll just have to play them both and see for myself.
