Well fair there are solutions like ventrillo on the PC but they are only free if you have the bandwidth and server to spare to run them. Most servers I have used were actually the servers that someone in the guild paid for. Same really goes for a lot of FPS servers its cool that you can enjoy these for free but understand they are definitely not free for some one. For smaller groups of voice chat Skype is free though.
I dont think itll ever take off because its competing pretty directly with Steam, which is a well established service that does everything better and does other stuff too (the store, the community, etc). These days games either support themselves, or go through steam, or both (like Cod 4).
Oh someone else did post about this. Well at least my post is in the form of a news write-up and not a should-be forum topic.

I thought you were referring to GFW Radio (My fave non-destructoid podcast) and came in here fuming mad ready to kill you but then I come in and see that you were talking about that scam.
The only way LIVE on PC is ever going to gain any degree of popularity is if they allow developers to incorporate achievements, leaderboards etc. into their titles without having to subscribe to the whole Games for Windows thing.
And cross platform multiplayer is a joke, there's like, what, 4 games that use it?
