About Me
Much to my family's disappointment after I got my Psych degree I moved into journalism. At the moment I do games and anime reviews for a free magazine in Sydney which no one reads. I also work casually as a research assistant but that isn't interesting.
I've been gaming since I was a wee lad and as I recall the first console I had was the Atari 2600. Pitfall 2 on the C64 amazed me and at the time I thought it was the deepest games would ever get.

I'm a big SRPG/RPG fan but I also have an itchy trigger finger so FPSes are on the cards to.
I have a weak spot for survival horror but I suck at them. The newer survival horror action games (RE4) are right up my alley.
Also big fan of Clover studios and Capcom in general.

Right now I've got a 360, Ps2, Saturn, cube(for imports) and Wii set up and I've also got a PSP & DS.

Ten game series you haven't heard of.

Note: this was originally written for a casual gaming blog.

Rules are as such: 1) Series must include at least three games that were released in English 2) Brett is homo.

10. Shin Megami Tensi

How can this series be in English? The title isn't even in English.
Anyway it is. SMT is weird that way and a lot of other ways too. Instead of being a straight sequential series like most games it is instead made up of a bunch of sub-series. Aside from sharing a few features and recurring monsters the games only really have one thing in common, they are dark as fuck and hardcore to the max! Seriously, you need to chug down a two litre bottle of Pepsi Max before attempting the extreme challenge these games present.
Using my mad translation skillz (or looking it up, i forget) i found out that 'Megami Tensi' means 'Reincarnation of the Goddess' and 'Shin' as we all know means 'SUPER!'.
The series had a bunch of games on the NES and SNES that weren't released in English so no one cares. Where the series really starts is on the PS2.

SMT: Lucifer's Call/Nocturne.

The two people in this country who have played this game (other than me) argue that this game is proof that the OLFC doesn't play the games they are given. If they had this game would have been banned a long time ago. This game is pretty dark. Three seconds into the story the world, except for small parts of Tokyo, is destroyed by some chick. I call her 'some chick' because you get to name all the major characters in the game. So in this reality the world was destroyed by Brett's mum.
Then you, in the service of Lucifer, have to explore the demon infested world and choose to either A) Destory the world again or B) fuck off Lucifer and rule the world. The world is covered in demons who are all dirty little buggers and the game is nothing if not entertaining. Did I mention it is hard?

SMT: Persona 1,2 & 3.

This one is even weirder, the third got awarded RPG game of the year last year. That's not the weird part by the way. The only one i'm up to date with is the 3rd one.
The weird part is that this game is half hardcore dungeon crawler RPG half high school dating sim. Basically the story is that these kids all have super munga demons inside them that they call out to battle other demons. In the third one in order to call out their "personas' the kids have to put a gun like thingys to their heads and simulate blowing their brains out. I haven't actually played any of this series but I intend to track the copies down.

SMT: Digital Devil Saga 1&2

This is probably the most normal of the series. The game starts in a kind of mad max world where different junkyard factions are blowing the shit out of each other. Then this alien chick appears and everyone becomes monsters who have to devour humans every few hours or they go insane. The two games are actually just one huge game that was split into two releases. I'm about half way through the first. Really disturbing character art in this game.

SMT: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs The Soulless Army

Probably the strangest of the lot, Devil Summoner takes place in 1930's Japan. You are a detective who can also summon the power of Lucifer's demons to your aid. That aside the game is quite light hearted and plays more like Kingdom Hearts than your standard RPG. This has some super mega disturbing (and funny) scenes in it such as a school girl who tells you that you are making her wet. Awesome.

hmm...hey wait! I've heard of these.

this does not pertain to such. Now to find Nocturne at an affordable price. lol.

I blame myself for not having money to pick up the game when it was randomly sitting in the gamestop near me.

Well, yeah. This was a post I wrote for a casual gaming blog.

I'd start with the DDS games if I could do it over. I started with Nocturne and then missed the inability to recruit in the DDS series.

I think we've all heard of this series...

Especially the Persona series, what with Persona 3 being critically praised across the board, and a favorite of many members of the Dtoid community.

But I did like the article. Keep up with it!!

Keep up the good articles and I'll keep up the maths!

I'm near positive almost no one I know, save for a few people would know this series. For some reason, I have yet to pick it up either.

Nice pick.

While the title was a lie, the content was entertaining. It balanced out nicely, so I'm feeling very zen.
