You know I own Sixteen SRPGS? Seventeen if you count my Japanese copy of Namco X Capcom and Shining Force on the VC. Eighteen if you count the fact that I have two copies of Disgaea (one Console one Handheld). How many of them have I finished? Three.....
There is good reason though, I've spent a lot of time with most of them (more than most people spend with their games) but I figure to be truly hardcore I should go through and do everything in them then write up reviews. The games are (in no particular order):
Shining Force (VC): The oldest of the crew i'm proud to say I've finished this (and the sequel but i'm not sure where my copy of the sequel is. Progress: Finished! (on the megadrive and gba)
Final Fantasy Tactics (PSP): Everyone goes nuts about this game but I've only played it for a few hours as I only just got it. Everytime I play it I wish I were playing La Pucelle. Progress: Pretty much none.
Front Mission DS (DS): Again, Just picked this one up. Is a remake of the original Japan only title. One of the few SRPGS to be set in the future. Progress: Did the training mission.
Front Mission 4 (Ps2): I really got into this a while ago, great story, funny characters but I got stuck on a particular mission and couldn't be bothered redoing it. Progress: About 25%
Stella Deus (PS2): It's meant to be a good game but it is suckily animated, each character has about 3 frames per animation so it looks jolty. The game is also a bit simple compared to a lot of the other SRPGS out there.... I paid a lot for it though so I should put in some time. Progress: About 30%
La Pucelle Tactics: Oh shyeah... now we talking. I've played through to the end about five times but I've never been able to best the final boss. On top of that, as with all Nippon Ichi games, there is 3x the game length in extras and bonuses. For this game I might do them. Progress: Last boss but only about 25% of the game is done.
Fire Emblem (GBA): I was very proud of myself when I finished this game... then I realized I'd only finished the first campaign. The game is good but takes itself too seriously. A lot of people say they prefer this over Shining Force.. I take funny over serious any day. Progress: 35%
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA): This game has the longest intro I've ever seen on a handheld, which is fine except when I'm restarting a game.... you can't skip the fucker. i actually put a lot of time into this game, everyone says they prefer the one on the PSP but this has it's own charm.
Disgaea (PSP/PS2): Sequel to La Pucelle this game does a lot of things differently. First of all it is set from the perspective of demons. Secondly it has a different battle engine (imagine shining force without the battle scenes... which I miss) and the attacks are displayed on the field. Even though I've pumped about 3o hours into this bad boy I'm nowhere in it. The PSP also has a second 'What if?' storyline from the perspective of the main characters flat chested sidekick. This is the game with the exploding penguins by the way.
Luminous Arc (DS): In this game you play a bunch of horny guys who have to fight chicks with big la boombas . I got stuck on the fourteenth mission in the game but up till then I was having a great time... has that genesis feel to it. There is a sequel coming next year Progress: 40%
Jeanne D'arc (PSP): We've yet to see this in Australia but America has it so therefor I have it. Created with that same charmy feel as Shining Force JDA is being hailed as one of the best SRPGS ever created. I got pretty far into it but haven't done the last battle. Progress: 60%
Phantom Brave (PS2): The game Nippon Ichi released after Disgaea, Phantom Brave is weird. All except one of your characters are ghosts that can only be summoned onto the field for certain amounts of time. So not only do have the usual tactics to keep in mind but you have to also know when to unleash your tank units. A lot of people say this is their favourite but... I love the description in the screenshot: Owl Ninja. Part Owl. Part Ninja. All Deadly. Progress: 12% Hoshigami (DS): I rushed to the store to buy this but I've only played about three seconds Progress: 0%
Makai Kingdom: Another game in the Disgaea series, this one got rid of the grid for open movement. Pretty cool but I prefer the grid. It got replaced in later games. In the game you control a self proclaimed 'Bad-ass-friggen-overlord'. This is one of the games I've finished but I haven't done the mammoth amount of extra stuff. Disgaea 2: Sequel to Disgaea... obviously. I finished this one about a month ago. Good. I did some of the bonus stuff too. Progress: Finished!
Soul Nomad & The World Eaters: This is Nippon Ichi's most recent effort and while it has gone back to some of the gameplay of La Pucelle, the story is way serious and, for some reason, they completely ditched drawing backgrounds for the game so it looks quite barren. The town sections have also been replaced by the Final Fantasy Tactics town screens, where you just select what you want to buy or who you want to talk to. Considering the monumental effort that I put into getting this game on release it is a bit disappointing. As you can see in the picture above, the sidekick is part cow and really stupid. Because of this she is made to wear a cowbell so people always know where she is. Also this game is the first SRPG I know of (or RPG for that matter) to feature really vulgar language, we are talking 'fucks', 'cunts' and 'cocks'. Which should be reason enough for me to play it. Progress: 5%
Namco Vs Capcom: Don't need to say anything about this one Progress 10% There is also D&D Tactics and LOTR:Tactics but they suck. All this writing about SRPGS has made me not want to play them.

Also: glad to see someone's actually played Stella Deus. All I remember about it were the gravity-defying breasts of, well, every female printed on the boxart. On both sides.
Hoshigami's ... interesting. Not my favorite, as the mechanics are kind of obtuse.
I own: Stella Deus, Disgaea (NTSC japan and PAL), Disgaea 2, La Pucelle, Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave, Growlanser Generations, Suikoden Tactics, Fire Emblem Advance, Final Fantasy Advance and PSX, Vandal Hearts 1 and 2, Saiyuki, Hoshigami, Kartia, Eternal Eyes (this one is awful) and... I want Soul Nomad so bad!
Should I buy Disgaea and la Pucelle? Or are they just downgraded versions that I'd be disappointed by?
