About Me
Much to my family's disappointment after I got my Psych degree I moved into journalism. At the moment I do games and anime reviews for a free magazine in Sydney which no one reads. I also work casually as a research assistant but that isn't interesting.
I've been gaming since I was a wee lad and as I recall the first console I had was the Atari 2600. Pitfall 2 on the C64 amazed me and at the time I thought it was the deepest games would ever get.

I'm a big SRPG/RPG fan but I also have an itchy trigger finger so FPSes are on the cards to.
I have a weak spot for survival horror but I suck at them. The newer survival horror action games (RE4) are right up my alley.
Also big fan of Clover studios and Capcom in general.

Right now I've got a 360, Ps2, Saturn, cube(for imports) and Wii set up and I've also got a PSP & DS.

Games with a slow start but a fantastic finish.

I recently finished Suikoden V. I'd played through the first several hours a few times and had never gotten into it. The game has the sloooooooooooooooooowest start but it snowballs and builds to the greatest RPG story I've experienced. For once in my life I actually cared about the characters, their subtle mannerisms won my heart.
I've just started Suikoden 3 and I'm having difficulty getting used to it. Probably should have played the first and second first.
Bring on number VI Konami!

So what other games have endings better than their starts?

Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2). Started off like any old RPG and felt really boring for the first hour. However everything really starts kicking off later on and ends up being a really fun title to complete. It just takes that initial push really.

I played Suikoden V for a while but apparently not long enough to get past the slow part. I completely lost interest in it after a very short time.

@Garrfunkel:
So did I but something made me pick it up again, I got about ten hours in (use the guide to get the Stars of Destiny, otherwise there is no hope) and from then on it was a rollercoaster ride. Well worth the investment

i have a save rotting on my ps3 .... bring on feb and i will start up again...

i played the first and instantly saw the pure depth the game has... but you really have to get to the "now your free to roam and search for ALL the characters" to fully understand and appreciate the game... not to mention the brilliant mini games....

Its a shame about SUIKODEN IV having been so poor(in terms of trying to copy the FF series), the games work better in sprites or V's take of 3d... i even have Suikoden tactics that has a cool option, to load up a save from IV, and if having all the characters, you start off with more characters in tactics... but alas the IV story is slight torture at its slowest.

All in all i am glad to see more peeps in on the suikoden games... anyone got all the characters?

I got all the characters in V and got the best ending. Even though some (Sairoh in particular) were bastards to recruit, each of them felt like they had heaps of depth to them. The character endings at the end brought tears to my eyes.
I think I might actually hold off on S3 (the perspective takes a bit to get used to) and start of with number one.

I would HIGHLY recommend you go play #1. My Mom got this for my brother and I when I had no idea what it was and my first thought was "Eh, it was a nice gesture, but I'll probably never play it", how mistaken I was. I cried in that game... twice. AWESOME game.

Also, I've recently tried to convince Chad to play through it because I think one of the moments in it deserves a "Memory Card" feature written for it. Maybe I cried because I was so young, but its the most memorable story sequence in any game I ever played.

So yeah, play through #1 and join my struggle to get Chad to play it :D

Both Golden Sun games for the GBA are incredibly slow in the beginning with what seems like 20 minutes of pure dialogue followed by a looong introduction to characters. Both are awesomely awesome however.

Ive got 1 and 4 beat, I just needa finish 2, where I think I know what I was doing, 3, and finish 5... Don't remeber where I am in that one, but it was damn good if I remember correctly.

Fallout 2 from what I can remember properly. Going through the first couple of towns I just felt "So all im doing is trying to find this GECK? Lets just find it already and get it over with". Then I saw the random encounter where the Enclave slaughtered a family and suddenly my interest skyrocketed.

YS Origins on PC. You need to watch tons of videos (and one in bad french voice acting) and they can't be skipped! Once the videos are finished however, it's great action RPG.

I'd go with Lunar: Silver Star Story but I'm a lil psycho and just obsessed with that game so I wouldn't really trust my opinion.

Suikoden II is one of the best RPGs I ever played, you shoul try it. Also, when I don't get into a game in the first hours I usually leave it.
