Well, after a long time lurking here, I worked my way up to commenting. And now, finally, I've decided to jump into the c-blogs. Here's to not sucking (hopefully)!
My real name is Chris, and I'm a 21-year-old telecommunications-production/anthropology major at the University of Florida. It's a weird combination that gets me lots of puzzled looks when I mention it, but oh well. As you may have gathered from my Dtoid name, I play the sax, and yes, I'm in the marching band. Dorky? Maybe. But I've gotten to go to two national championship football games in three years, so I'm not complaining :) Also, I know it makes me a rare breed around these parts, but I'm a huge sports fan (mostly college sports, of course).
I've been gaming since before I was gaming, by which I mean my earliest encounter with video games was "playing" the demo of
Super Mario Bros. when I was around two years old. Ah, the simple joys of an unplugged controller and a constantly repeating run-through of World 1-1...
Why did the level never change?
Once I graduated to actually playing, I never looked back. I still remember when I was in pre-school, and I
finally beat Mario. I was so proud (especially of the fact that I had beaten Bowser with fireballs and not the axe) that I immediately drew a picture of my triumph to show my dad when he got home from work. I like to think that he was as proud as I was. I grew up in a one-console-per-generation house, so I always stuck with Nintendo. I don't regret it, even now. I unfortunately don't have as much time to play as I used to, so there's no time to complain of lack of games. My younger brother did get a 360 for Christmas, but that's back home in New Jersey, so I obviously don't get to enjoy it while I'm at school.
I've been lurking here for a loooooong time. I first discovered the site after a certain infamous (World inFamous?) incident on another blog involving Wii chip production. After Mr. Summa was "let go" from Joystiq, someone posted in the comments over there in the aftermath, "Oh, Summa's at Destructoid now." I had never been a fan of his, but I decided to check out this "Destructoid" place. I still didn't like Summa, but I immediately bookmarked the site. Why did I wait so long to register? I procrastinate, what can I say.
Before I go on too long, I have to give a shout-out to the RetroforceGO! crew. To anyone who listened to the Capcom episode, yes, I'm the one that sleepwalked and babbled about the passwords in
Aladdin. Well, I got a package from Miami today, and found some awesome things inside:
Zombie Ninja! And yes, I saved a piece of the box. I'm a sentimental guy.
Stickers! A button! And the fabled Dtoid condom!
Thanks RetroforceGO! And Destructoid, I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
And I envy the condom. :P
