Mario Kart is a great series, and every time a new iteration in the series comes out, I have a
blast playing it with my friends. But whenever a new game comes out, it's just the same old
Mushroom Kingdom tracks, with the same old Mushroom Kingdom characters.
Imagine if it took some cues from the Smash Brothers series. It could have characters like
Link, Zelda, Kirby, the Pokémon trainer, and of course, the plumber and all his gang. Each
with their own unique items and abilities. LInk could have a claw-shot item that could reach
ahead and grab the character ahead of him. Samus could set loose a swarm of meroids upon
her opponents, temporarily blocking their vision. And Sonic could have his... speed.
There could be so much more variety with the environments. Like if you were in a (Twilight
Princess) Hyrule Field stage, racing past Zelda's castle, over the Eldin Bridge and down past a
lake Hyrule. Or in a Wind Waker track, with little bridges connecting small islands, each one
having different characteristics from each island in the actual game. Or a Metroid stage, with
tones of different routes and paths going all over the place, each one having forest, lava or
sand ruin environments. Or a Pokémon stage with different types of Pokémon wandering
around and using their abilities to stop you.
If Nintendo took a a year or so and invested money into this game, and put a good dev team
on it, it would sell great. I'm sure that the casual (i hate that word), and hardcore gamers
would be into it.
Why not consider changing something that is NOT at the core of a particular franchise?
Being able to play as Solid Snake or something in Mario Kart would be awesome. Maybe then I'd have incentive to play as anything other than my Mii.
take out the blue shell. That'd be a first step in the right direction. blue shells shouldn't beat out stars. red shells need to be back to their SNES Mario Kart days (and what I mean is good homing.) Bring back that feather.
Stop all the baby characters. Baby Mario and Luigi's enough. Actually stop all the same character, different version stuff. (dry bones bowser? seriously. phail.) Lets start adding other Nintendo known characters in the mix folks.
Also the character specific weapons didn't really add anything to the table in Double Dash.
I just don't want to see Link in a kart. Link fighting makes sense; Link driving does not.
I agree on the "exploring other mario characters" bit. More than enough of them. No one says we have to keep making these silly extra renders of returning characters. Dry bones passes..but i'm a koopa Troopa.
Blue shell, start, bullet bill, pow blow and a red shell, all of this shit can hit you AT ONCE during 150cc, not to mention the computer hiting you with them when you're over a hole or a jump and down you go, OH SHIT I'M IN 9TH PLACE ON THE LAST MAP, OH WELL.
I got as far as the 16 area cup in 150cc and gave up after several tries, the game is just to unfair, it doesn't want you to do good, meanwhile the enemies drive perfectly, the slowest accelerating car in the game goes to max speed in a single second, its ridiculous.
Mario Kart needs to go back to Double Dash. That was epic fun time.
Let me play with no items at all, or just the SNES items, then I'll have fun again.
I also feel for some reason, like the games are just too short, I know there's like 32 tracks, but for whatever reason, that just doesn't feel like enough
oh yes. I personally hate the "shitty items closer to first place, better items in last place" ordeal. I get tired of getting 80 banannas, 20 green shells, and about 1 red shell when i'm in first. I know banannas keep people at bay..but they suck at it on most of the courses that are open ended (like...half the tracks.)
and yes Kyousuke, I feel that same pain. Getting first place in the higher circuits is like bullet hell for the cpu behind you. everything flies at you and they seem to do it all to well. Lets not forget the barrage of blue shells every now and then (I remember getting hit about 4 blue shells hit me in a row in the DS version.) stuff like this doesn't make me want to play at all.
But that's good, because its a total defense weapon, built around you trying to defend your top spot... not man handle everyone behind you.
Not only does it lay some supressive fire down if you hit the right angle, but it also stops red and green shells if you drop it right.
the way I see it, blue shells give everyone a chance... not jus the expert player.
The only thing that pisses me off is the uncanny ability for cpu players to run into you, after you get smacked with a turtle shell, so it takes you longer to start up.
Why do boys think it's cool to look like girls today?
Also, Mario Kart hasn't been good since Mario Kart 64. Double Dash was awful.
plus, half of what you want to do is change the skin of the game. having tracks in different places doesn't change the game, man.
also, fail title.
