Umm... Hasn't it been pretty commonly noted on the interweb that MGS4 won't make that much sense without having played the previous installments? Did you expect anything different?

That's why they released the Metal Gear Database. Haven't got internet at home? Then check wikipedia or just google the metal gear story and you'll find plenty of video recaps. Also it was stressed that this is the final chapter in the Solid Snake story so how can you not know that knowledge of the previous games are required?

Oh duuude..... You must must must play through the other metal gear games to even begin to appreciate MGS4... Do yourself a favor and play the others in order and then give MGS4 a go and your level of appreciation will go through the roof!!!
eh you shouldnt've even played mgs4 if you haven't tried the other ones. that's like seeing matrix revolutions before seeing any of those other movies.
mgs4 to me had the best story and gameplay elements but snake eater was the most phon to play, i must have beaten that game about 30 times on all difficulty levels.
