I've decided to make this fan art business a weekly thing for me, just to motivate myself to practice, practice, practice.
This time, it's the Battlefield Heroes scene inspired by my countless encounters with those commandos. Even gunners like me run away from those knife-wielding freaks.
A little background on the piece: My original intention was to have zero outlines, just like a couple of my previous works (Animal Crossing and No More Heroes), because I was having fun with the Polygonal Lasso Tool. But when I start filling the scenes with color, I noticed that the two characters don't stand out that much from the rest of the scene. So I tried to apply a cel-shaded style on them; they may not be accurate to the game, but I just had to do it.
And as for the burning tank, it shouldn't actually be burning. The original idea is to have it shooting at an off-screen enemy, but when I saw my original sketch, it's attracting too much attention. Well I can't have a tank in there without it doing nothing so I just set it on fire, just to suggest that the two characters are not alone.
Good thing I chose this particular game, because I miss drawing trees* and meadows and that oh-so-blue sky. Kind of reminds me of how I feel when I watch Miyazaki's films. So if I remove all the war-related elements, the scene would look like this:
Anyway, it's all thanks to the game itself. Just running around the Seaside Skirmish level is enough to inspire me.
See you next week. Or in the battlefield.

*tree. I only drew one then duplicated it.
But you obviously know this, I'm just here to tell you to carry on, soldier.
Cowabunga!
What are you using to draw it with?
