M.I.H. stands for make it happen.
The Jet Set Radio series has seen two damn solid releases, as Jet Grind Radio on the dreamcast, and Jet Set Radio Future on the XBOX. For those unfamiliar with the series, you're part of a gang that cruises neo-tokyo on rocket powered roller blades spraypaintin walls. while on the surface, it may not sound like the greatest thing since cinnamon flavored meth, the style and presentation of the series always made it just that.
Jet Set Radio pretty much put cell shading on the map. When the first screenshots surfaced, you couldn't help but let out an 'oh shi!', and then finally seeing it in action sealed the deal. fluid animations. a very stylish locale. unique characters, from the other members of your gang to the pirate radio pimpin professor K all made for a memorable experience. The original had one of the best J-Pop soundtracks ever.
I haven't heard much about the series since Jet Set Radio Future was bundled with Sega Rally for an old Xbox package. I think now is the perfect time to bring it back.
since the wii is already behind in the graphics department, cell shaded games seem to work well. most of the people on this site were pleased with the presentation of no more heroes. the motion controls would be perfect for 'tagging'.
sega, we know you know your way around the wii at this point. how about a box set for like $40 with Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future with some motion controls tacked on? How about a brand new entry to the Jet Set Radio series? I'm pretty sure new gamers would love the style, and those of us who had the pleasure of playing past iterations would eat it up.
MAKE IT HAPPEN!
The gameplay is fun enough, merely okay in the original, but the game oozes style. The soundtrack is fantastic.
The fact the sequel on Xbox made tagging a one button affair AND removed the ability to upload your own art really hurt the experience for me. I only played 2 or 3 levels before tossing it aside because it was too lame. The tension of tagging a big piece while the cops were coming after ya was totally lost in the sequel.
Plus, I disagree a further sequel should come out on the Wii. While the game play may have suffered the second time around, there's no denying each iteration was a visual powerhouse for their respective hardware at the time of their release. Each was brimming with colorful graphics and loads of action on screen. Putting a JGR game on the Wii would pretty much be the same thing all over again.
I'd rather see it rock the 360 (already home to many Dreamcast series) and really blow me away with the graphics. All they have to do to bring me back to the series is add the Dreamcast's controls for tagging. I don't need waggle whatsoever.
In fact, I think waggle could hurt the experience. The on foot controls were sorta clunky as is, and every "traditional" game I play on Wii has similar problems (see: Scarface, U R MR GAY). They need to put it on a system with a controller that is easier to play with when it comes to 3rd-person action games.
Despite the fact I disagree with you on so many points, I am glad to see someone else on this site loves JGR. It's still one of my most memorable gaming experiences.
Im not sure how great the Wii-mote would be, hold sideways and use the d-pad to control? Maybe the Classic controller could be used for other games than VC? Its got joysticks that could be used like the Dreamcast controller - albeit I think the button layout sucks with the dual sticks, I would still give it a go.
Add in custom sprays kick ass soundtrack or the ability to use your own songs, and I think it could do well, better than Ninjabread Man at least.
If a sequel did come, I don't think it would be to the 360. Mostly I'm campaigning because I already own a Wii :P but given the sales of the previous one on Xbox and assuming the audience is roughly the same for Microsoft's current machine I don't think Sega will take the risk. Hell, the first sequel was a big enough risk anyway, after the sales of JGR.
I disagree about the clunkiness of Wii controls for 3rd person action games. Resident Evil 4 worked beautifully, after a minor period of adjustment to how it handled aiming.
as for the wii controller and really any 3d game, the wiimote and nunchuck are not as intuitive as nintendo would like you to believe, especially to those of us who never gave up on gaming, and think the 2 analogue stick method of input is fine. but i've also seen newbs handle the wii better than i do, even on the challenging stars in Mario Galaxy. which i guess is what they were after.
honestly, i'd take this however i could get it. if they put it on the ps3 with mindblowing visuals and some sixaxis tagging, it would be a console seller for me.
I didn't love the game, but I enjoyed it. Some of the music got on my nerves and made me wish for custom soundtracks.
But, no. Your motion control idea? I disagree.
:)
Shaking the Wii remote to prep a new can of paint could be kinda neat, or possibly annoying.
wow, this isn't really directed at anyone in particular, but at the 'hardcore' gaming community as a whole. seriously, regardless of what i'm reading, or where i'm posting, someone always says 'waggle, no thanks.'
i agree, that in most cases, execution of motion controls on nintendo's platform have not been, ummm, good. but i'm optomistic that there will be a game that gets it right, and i think this game could definatey be one of them. motion controls naturally lend themselves to already familiar gameplay.
i like 'A New Challangers' idea of shaking the wiimote to prep your paint. i like hearing the 'shhhh' of the paint coming out of the can thru the wiimotes speaker. it adds a level of immersion that wasn't once there. i was blown away by NMH when my cell phone calls came thru the wii mote. yes, i'm a loser, and i'd put it up to my ear, but little things like that put me in the shoes of my avatar. i like it.
if motion controls were more precise, or the wii was more powerful in the graphics department, do you think this argument would change? do you guys hate the sixaxis too? is it just movement that you despise? i don't understand all this negativity. enlighten me.
Shaking your Wiimote around to tag sounds stupid to me.
And yes, lets shake the spray can. With the nunchuck setup you could even skate and tag simultaneously.
I agree with galaga. Where is all this waggle dislike coming from? WarioWare, Zack and Wiki, Metroid Prime 3: its been done right, regardless of the countless examples of it being done wrong.
what was the last jgr game released? that shit gba port.
yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but right now all you have is a statement. i'm not looking to be an ass, but rather i am geniunely interested in where the negativity comes from. what is it about motion controls you don't enjoy? is it just that you don't think it would work in the world of JSR? have you ever used a gesture based device that you had a positive experience with?
