I've always appreciated what the first skate game did, the way it kind of reinvented the "genre." When it worked for me, it worked. But more often than not, it didn't work. In short, I sucked at the original game.
So when EA sent me our review copy of the sequel last week, I was excited to dig in, and to hunker down and really get a grasp on the controls. At first, I was feeling it, taking on simple tasks like "oh hi ollie!" or "oh hi kickflip!" that the game threw at me. Then I hit a wall. On the wall, in spraypaint, was written: you're fucking awful at this game, and even the most simple action (like grinding these "books" to own this spot) will seem impossible and frustrating.
So, a day or two after trying to play the game, I gave up. I was more frustrated than anything else. I found someone else on the staff who review the game, because I was actually angry at the title -- not a good way to review a game. I don't think it's bad, I just don't think it's for me and my short attention span.

nick - its not a game i'd wanna pick up to review. its not something i'd enjoy if i had to just play through the the career in a set period of time. the reason i loved and played the first so much is b/c its one of those games you make you own pace. find a spot you like, tool around, move on to the next. timing is tricky, but once it clicks, the game is real rewarding.
