In an interview over at What They Play, Pokemon series director Junichi Masuda responded to questions about a Pokemon MMO saying, "At this point, we're not thinking of going in that direction. Trading is a core concept of Pok�mon. So when you're trading, you meet with a friend and decide which one you want and which one they want. I would like to emphasize real-world communication. You don't see each other online."

Playing pokemon...I never thought trading was huge. just training animals to kill other animals.

That's the reason? Not that I'm exactly clamoring for a Pokemon MMO, but they could at least come up with a better reason than that, right?

I guess they don't like piles of money, oh well. Look at all the people who buy Pokemon on DS and get way too into the game. A good percentage of those people would definitely fork over a monthly fee.

Meh, I'm not interested in a Pokemon MMO, but I would love to see the online aspects hammered out more (and with out friend codes :p) Meeting fellow trainers works when your in elementary school, but past that, it gets kind of hard ;)

At least, not until 3G is universal and free to use. Everywhere.
