The direction Call of Duty seems to be heading
fitzinator | 2:20 PM on 03.10.2010 5 comments

Most of us are aware of the whole Activision vs. Zampella/West scenario, and have heard about the direction Activision wants to take the Call of Duty seires. A couple of weeks ago, Activsion announced that Sledgehammer Studio will be taking the Call of Duty name into the action/adventure genre. Being a fan of the Call of Duty series myself, I am not falling for this ploy to try and get my money just because it says Call of Duty, and I am pretty sure I am not alone on this.

It appears that Activision wants to milk the Call of Duty cow dry, ever since Modern Warfare 2 earned over a billion dollars, so far. Now if the recent history of Activision has told us anything, it is that they will drive this title to the ground and take it for all its worth. Guitar Hero is the best example of a game that was relativly popular which was eventually shoved down our throats so much that everybody groans when they hear about a new Guitar Hero, or any "Hero" for that matter.

Now, I have compiled a list of all the "Hero" games(across all platforms), and show you the direction of the Call of Duty name if Activision follows their usual pattern:

2005
Guitar Hero* (PS2)

2006
Guitar Hero II* (PS2)

2007
Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s (PS2)
Guitar Hero II (Xbox 360)
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Multi-platform)
Guitar Hero III Mobile (Mobile)
Guitar Hero Carabiner (Handheld)

2008
Guitar Hero World Tour (Multi-platform)
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (Multi-platform)
Guitar Hero: On Tour (DS)
Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades (DS)
Guitar Hero III Backstage Pass (Mobile)
Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile (Mobile)

2009
Guitar Hero 5 (Multi-platform)
Guitar Hero: Metallica (Multi-platform)
Guitar Hero: Van Halen (Multi-platform)
Guitar Hero Smash Hits (Multi-platform)
Band Hero (Multi-platform)
DJ Hero (Multi-platform)
Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits (DS)
Guitar Hero 5 Mobile (Mobile)
Guitar Hero Arcade (Arcade)

*Guitar Hero (PS2) and Guitar Hero II (PS2) were not published by Activision

After the first two Guitar Hero games were released, Activision saw the potential money pit and went for it.Guitar Hero 6 has already been announced and we are all thrilled. Just by looking at the list, you can already predict what is going to happen to Call of Duty. Not only are they looking to produce more games, they are looking into new genres. So you can expect a Call of Duty platformer, RTS and racing game to be announced in a few months and if they EVER make a "Call of Duty Hero",run for a underground bunker because that is the sign of the apocalypse.

Thanks for reading!

Elsa
I buy Infinity Ward games... not Call of Duty games, and not Activision games.

@Elsa exactly. thats where i stand to. I'm just pointing out that some of us are aware that Infinity Ward makes excellent games, and with the possibility of the massive Call of Duty flood we are about to get, some people will buy into it until nobody wants to see it again

Call of Duty: War Hero

Use the M16 controller with colorful buttons on it to lay waste to terrorists. Make sure you shoot up in the air from time to time to unleash your star power on their asses.

May cost $9.99 a month for online multiplayer
