please bare with me as i am typing this blog with 1 hand right now. and im no journalist so most of this will seem like gibberish. and i am not concerned about capitalization or correct punctuation right now, so grammar Nazis please just ignore it if you can.
i know. i really dont write blogs, mainly because i dont have much to say. i tend to just play my games and thats about it. ive been here for years now and most people know me as that milk fetus guy. the ocasional snide comment dropper.
im an older gamer of 32. i started gaming at my grandmas house playing the Odyssey 2 at the age of 4. ive been around and seen tons of changes in the industry. but like i said, i just keep on playing the games i like.
as of lately my gaming hobby has fallen off due to the ever greediness of the industry. i do not like any of the recent practices of gouging its consumers for no real reason. you dont really see any other industries doing the same thing. it only seems to be video games. as far as i can tell.
but to get more to the point of this blog. i was recently in a car accident last tuesday and broke my radius and ulna on my left forearm. i now have plates and pins holding them together.
car is totaled,3 rims cracked, along with axle, trunk in back seat, drivers seat cracked in half. etc etc. im going to miss my 06 wrx dearly. and yes its the same car thats in my header image :(
i thought i was going to die seconds before slamming into one of CTs many rock faces on the sides of our highways. lucky it was only a broken arm. my shoes came off in the car, lost my hat and glasses through the shattered back windshield.
this angers me greatly because it happened a few days after i got batman:AC, and now thats just sitting in my ps3 unplayable at this time. i was really looking forward to it because i was a huge fan of AA. but now i have a temp split on my arm larger than Jim Sterlings thighs. lets just say, i cant even put on a long sleeve shirt right now.
and now the game i have been waiting a long time for, Saints row the third, is about to be released. and depending on the type of hard cast i get this tuesday will determine if i will be able to play one of my all time favorite series for a good 6-8 weeks. at least i can let my room mates play it and it could be worse, at least i dont have to use one of these.
im hoping that using a controller will actually be good physical therapy for my hands and fingers. see how my orthopedist feels about that. but god damn, i need this game ASAP! i need to throw people off buildings and into trains! i wasnt to impressed with the initiation station. personally i would have rather had the clothing layers of sr2 over dynamically animated flowing cloth etc. i mean are you even going to see that with all the shit going on onscreen? its not a deal breaker, just seems to be less options this time around as far as clothing goes.
i also havnt seen much in the way of the activities available, i know some of the good ones are back(insurance fraud, personal fav) but what else have they shown? all i seem to see is videos of the dildo slugger. like its the only weapons in the game? what about the guns? any other new melee weapons? swords, tear gas? shock paddles? pimp cane shotgun? guess ill just have to wait and see.
but one thing im not looking forward to is all the DLC, i just get this feeling like the 40 weeks of dlc will be shit they should have just left in the game for release. more weapons, nah, we will make you pay for them, more vehicles? fuck you, pay us. more activities, screw you pay us.
now unless they offer up some free stuff im not about to pay 100$ for a game with less stuff than its prequel. i know i know, the game will be fun anyway. i just dont like these practices as of lately.

one of the other disappointments right now for me is i am an urban explorer photographer and had just picked up my new Canon 7D the day before the crash.
so now thats 1600$ worth of equipment just sitting around waiting till i get better so i can get back out there shooting. thank jimmyx it was my left hand and not my right hand. or else i would be screwed.
and i recently had entered 3 prints to an art show about a month ago. missed the first reception due to the oct snow storm, which got pushed to the fri i was still in the hospital, so i missed it again. i wonder if anyone offered to buy them? these are the prints i submitted, but they are matted and framed.
if anyone wants to check out my photography website, feel free, its a great way to get to know me and what i like to do.

thanks for reading, now its time for some pain meds and shitty daytime tv. maybe if i get bored enough ill throw up my tripod and take pics of my video game collection for another blog. since i have the free time. im glad to be part of this community and i knew i could share with you people about my situation.
at least i still have my puppy Milo to keep me company/warm while im home all day!

Hopefully you get a cast that allows you to play games... especially as you are likely going to be sitting around a lot and spending some time recovering. Gaming is a good distraction from pain.
... and this is another situation where the ability to customize controls is so important in gaming. Even if you can use your cast hand, it may not be as flexible as your other hand and it might be much easier to be able to customize how you game.
Best of luck with your recovery!!
@elsa - i 100% agree about customizable controls. it never made sense to me to force users into a controller scheme based on how the developer feels it should be played. 1 game uses x to jump and another uses L1 or O. r1 for run another uses r3. L2 to duck while some use L3. why cant i just choose what i want to do. would it change the game at all if i changed them to my liking? one of my favorites games, time splitters2, let you customize if i recall EVERY button to what you wanted. it was great. then you have games that make you use the most ridiculous control scheme to "control" how the game is played for suspense reasons etc
@arttemis - luckily it was a mid break on both bones. my elbow and wrists are fine. i could see my self being able to play in about a week or so, since its my left arm and only movement and the l1,l2 buttons are needed. and my thumb is move pretty moveable. so its not to bad. its more of a "can i hold onto the controller strong enough while playing" issue.
@jaded - everybody i show the pics to just stare at me like, "how are you even talking to me right now?" and i am very surprised myself. im still not even sure what actually broke my arm. must have been when i hit the wall i slid up the back of my seat into the roof, prob slamming my arm somewhere.
As far as gaming goes, I'm with you on the greediness of the industry. It' makes me glad sometimes that I don't own a PS3 or 360. For me at least, as time goes on and I continue to play my PS2 or DS, it actually gets easier to not desire a PS3. If the industry is just going to go from here, then I want no part of it and I'll continue to game in my own personal slice of gaming heaven. I hope you do as well.
Get well soon!
Free DLC seems to be a thing of the past. It is pretty disgusting how greedy this industry is getting. I don't mind the amount of DLC that is released, just how badly they have been overpricing it all. It's not like they've been doing anything original with it either.
