The most amazing thing to be combined with gaming.

If there are two things I love more than anything else it's computer games and food and I never thought I would see the day when the two could be combined so perfectly until I found Gourmet Gaming.

This blog allows us to experience foods from many games and gives us some wonderful images and a Facebook page.

To top it all off you can also make requests and it has a great list page organised by difficulty.

Anyway I hope you get as much enjoyment as I do from this blog it's simple layout makes it friendly to all culinary levels.   read

Rumoured Batman Prequel

So for my first blog entry I wanted to make a good impression. My original intention was to do something about the characterisations of the rogue gallery in the the first two Batman games (Arkham Asylum & Arkham City) but then I read an interesting little titbit that I confess I missed back in July. [This is probably because I'm British and don't keep up with the American magazines all that much.]

Anyway, a small article which caught my attention was from Variety magazine (Graser, 2012) that stated the possibility of there being a Silver age prequel game being put into the pipes for possible release at the earliest in 2014. The article itself hinted heavily that this game would explore Batman and Joker's first confrontation.

I believe this will be interesting, although I'm not entirely sure how they plan to translate it from comic to video game as Joker has gone through many incarnations over the years, and none quite as sharp as the silver age. To understand why and how he changed, one would need to take a look into the comics code authority which was adopted October 1954 (comicartville, date unavailable). The Comic Code Authority heavily regulated the content in this period of comic history. It wasn't dissolved until September 2011, when the Comic Book Legal Defence Fund acquired it's intellectual property rights. Essentially, Joker went from a straight forward homicidal murderer in Golden age comics (1940's) to more of a goofy prankster of the Silver age (1950's - 1970 approx).

Joker and Batman came head to head in the first Batman comic; Batman #1(Golden age comics 1940's) so why isn't this being used? Well I suspect because Warner Bros wants to stir up interest because this is when we first see other Superheroes and Heroines such as Flash, Superman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman. These heroes come together to form the Justice League of course, which leads me to the conclusion [possibly a bit hastily.] In all likelihood,it really it isn't about them, or this possibly great game, but more used as a promo to get people more interested in the Justice League after the massive success seen from The Avengers franchise from Marvel.

As a fan of both the comics and the games; not to mention being a fan of Joker. I will be disappointed if they intend to go solely with the Silver age theme because I don't think it will showcase the dynamic these two characters have at their best. Anyway, I know I went on a lot about comics in this blog post but I found it impossible to explain without giving some background knowledge at the same time.

For now, I'm being cautiously optimistic with a massive dash of cynicism. But hey, I never know: I may be pleasantly surprised.
