Many oldies here will remember my blog post awhile back about having half-life 1 come to the ds in a reformed vision of course. Now I bring you another oldie to the DS table.. fallout 1. For some reason I am really wanting to see old PC game titles come to the ds, especially ones like this which are not too graphically intensive. Hey, if they can get jagged alliance on the DS they can get this damn game on there, and how beautiful it would be to have a dirty adult humored violent video game on the ds finally ;D.

What say you, who would like to see some old titles like fallout / fallout 2 / tactics come to the ds.. ooo tactics w/ wireless play DO WANT! What about crusader no remorse ? ;) Must brainstorm further!

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Dude, the Fallout series on the DS would be amazing. If they came out with Fallout games on the DS I would actually buy them because they would be totally worth it.

The controls would be extremely easy too since the game was designed for PC and it was just point and click. You just tap the screen instead. Oh God, do want.

I kinda wish they were making Fallout 3 for the DS...for some reason it's still ok to make the kind of games I like for mobile systems...

I don't think it would be that great, either.

not that I wouldn't try it.

well heres my theory, if they can get jagged alliance to work on the ds (which they are doing) I think fallout could work just fine. There really is nothing complex atall about the control screem, plus you have the stylus. All that it would really require is a rework of the user interface.

And as far as performance they can EASILY work their way with it Fallout 1's requirements are a joke compared to today... and its as follows.

10+ mb of HD Space
A Mouse replace with stylus
90mhz
32mb of ram

Hell jagged alliance has higher system requirements than that!

The biggest challenge for this would be to re-work the interaction with the game, which isnt complex at all to begin with. The content, story, everything is done, and considering the graphics are little to nothing they could use the same assets, unless they felt inclined to give it a little graphical boost.

And if they can get this to work, imagine getting tactics on there.. that would be shazamafied. (Just think Warhammer Squad Command but in a fallout tactics universe - shh i fucking loved squad commander).

Pretty sure it will suck, if it actually happened. It looks good on paper, but it will take a really good engine and some fine execution to make people want to play an actual Fallout game on the DS.

@ Dy - The question is do you really think bethesda is gonna do a ds game? and if they did i'd have no doubt they'd try and remake it ;p

From what i understand dao is that they dont own the rights to the original fallout games, interplay still owns those, so if they wanted to make ds remakes of the originals im sure they could do it right ;D.

@ dyslixec - Hmmm.... sure they don't own the rights but they own the rights to the fallout name, and porting it to the ds would be making a new game, which would fall under bethesda. Even if it's a port it's not the original game being rereleased as is.

Dao, if it's a port that would mean it was using Fallout's original code and graphics, and thus belongs to interplay. Now, they could build a DS version from scratch and use the existing Fallout 1 story (AKA a remake) but I don't think Bethesda would do justice to the original. What we want here is interplay to strike a deal with Bethesda to use the original content and develop a port, preferably from an outside source because I don't think Bethesda has any experience with DS development to my knowledge, I could be wrong.

A fallout DS port could work, and it could control and play quite well actually. But the problem is, considering the DS market would an 11-year old port of a PC game sell well? It's a great game but I don't think the appeal is there, and especially how Fallout 3's changing the series so much re-releasing the original may be a financial gamble for all parties involved.

There are the hardcore bases though, those who would buy the original on the DS in a heartbeat. And those who've never tried the game before but have heard a lot of good things about it and a DS port would be a great introduction (Chrono Trigger DS anyone?) And Fallout 3's popularity could also bring new buyers and make consumers delve deeper into the Fallout mythos.

TL;DR If this is gonna happen, it'll be a good time after Fallout 3 is released so the Fallout series gets mainstream awareness. And it would be awesome. And I could very well be wrong about absolutely everything in this comment.

/end over-analysis

@ the GAMEGOBLIN - Nuhuh gamegoblin, you CAN'T use the same code at all, an engine made for the PC will NOT work with the DS. It'd be liking coding assembly for the xbox. Shit just doesn't happen, it has to be a brand new code/engine or an existing ds one modified. If they work the engine right then yes they could use the exisiting textures and all that, but no in no way will it be the same code.

you know what, I dont know. Could the DS handle walls of text to this extent? It sounds like a great idea, but I dont think it would be worth it in the long run.

I love this idea, I also loved you Half-Life DS one.
I don't know why everyone here thinks the controls wouldn't work with a ds... I think they'd work fine, just substitute the mouse with the stylus and you've got the game. This really would be the most awesome DS game ever, then they could bring out F2 DS and F Tactics DS with Wi-Fi. Good job, I thought it was real for a sec... :P
