So, as I posted yesterday, my DS3 controller arrived. I took it home last night and tried it out. While I don't have a comprehensive review, I'm hoping you'll find this enlightening and prepare you for it's US/EU release sometime next year.
If you've purchased any spare Sixaxis controllers, you know the routine for setting this up. Hook it to a USB cable to the PS3, turn the PS3 on, once the PS3 loads, hit the PS button, then throw your Sixaxis away.
After this, you'll find that all your games that are going to potentially support rumble, they just work. Don't have to turn anything on, they just work. I tried the Rachet and Clank demo last night, and it just works.
Rumble is just as subtle or bombastic as it was on the Dual Shock 2.
Overall, I give Sony an 11 out of 10 for adding this essential feature back into the controller. I certainly missed it.
It is heavier, BTW, but it's not a lead weight. It just feels like it did before with the DS2, just wirelessly.

This will make me play my Station more. No lie, I like rumble in my games.
For HAVING to do this at all, they get a -8965846578931/10.
No matter how much win this is, it's still FAIL.
Does MS get a shout out for having it at launch, and not requiring you to buy another controller for 10 year old functionality?
Don't buy any more sixaxis controllers, just wait for the rumble!
here here for rumble, but boo for the extra weight.
