Phoenix Events for October 2011

Things are cooling down in Phoenix, and that means people are more willing to go outside and meet up with each other! We've got three things going on this coming month. Live in Phoenix? Join our Google Group to get more details! Read on for some information for October events in Phoenix.

October 7th-9th
DEVASTATION gaming tournament event
Who: Any Destructoid Phoenix members interested
What: Gaming event, mainly focused on tournaments. Some old arcade cabinets and pinball machines will also be there set to free play. Admission is about $40 for the entire weekend, but entry to any tournaments is free with admission.
When: Friday, October 7th until Sunday, October 9th
Where: Phoenix Convention Center
125 North 3rd Street
Phoenix, AZ 85004

October 8th
NARP at Maeloch's house
Who: Any Dtoiders are welcome, but know that there will be non-Dtoiders as well
What: Maeloch has an impressive game collection, including an entire room for Kinect, in addition to his main gaming room. Weather permitting, outdoor games will be available, and Dexter will probably bring some board games too. Bring your own booze.
When: Saturday, October 8th, starting at 6 PM.
Where: Maeloch's house! Join the Google Group for more specific info.

October 22nd
Meetup at Howie's Game Shack
Who: Anybody interested in a huge LAN center with several rows of PCs and Xbox 360s.
What: This will be the second time Destructoid has descended on Howie's Game Shack, which is a large LAN center in Mesa. Their selection is limited to mostly the super popular stuff. A three-hour pass is $9, but a twenty-four-hour pass is only $12. They recently added tables, so Dexter will probably bring board games. Seriously, does that guy even play video games any more?
WhenSaturday, October 22nd, time TBA (join the Google Group for exact times, fo' real!)
Where: Howie's Game Shack
1033 North Dobson Road, #110
Mesa, AZ 85201

Come out and meet up with us! We'll soak up the overcast, and then go back into an air conditioned building because that's where the games are.   read

Phoenix events for July 2011

The sun is beating down these days, so what better way to stay cool than to huddle in a crowded space with a bunch of sweaty nerds who play with cardboard? Okay, so maybe there are better ways, but they might not be as fun was what we have planned. Two things are going on this month, though one is a bit iffy.

July 16th, 2011
Vul-Con Arena II
Who: Any Destructoid Phoenix members who are interested in videogames' analog cousins
What: One-day tabletop game convention, featuring free play and tournaments for board, card, role playing, and miniature games. Admission is $10, but if you enjoy it, you get a $10 discount to the big convention in February. Check the schedule here.
When: Saturday, July 16th, from 10 AM until 9 PM
Where: Imperial Outpost Games
4920 West Thunderbird Road, #121
Glendale, AZ 85306

July 30th, 2011
Housewarming non-NARP
Who: Any Destructoid Phoenix members, though total capacity is limited
What: Darren Nakamura and his wife are finally getting a new apartment, and it is large enough to host occasional parties. Help them kick it off with Rock Band, Lips, Raskulls, N+, and potentially other games ranging from old school to current generation. Console, handheld, and tabletop games will all be available for playing. Also, there will probably be delicious snacks. BYOB.
When: Saturday, July 30th, although this is not set in stone. Let's say July 30th +/- 1 week.
Where: Location will be discussed on our Google Group, so join up if you are interested.   read

Dtoid Phoenix has a group now! [shortblog]

Dtoid Phoenix was a blog, back before groups existed, but now we're a group!  There are no current plans for any NARPs, but keep an eye here for any stuff going on in the future.  Once the ball gets rolling, we'll get more members, and once we get more members, the snowball effect will take us on the light rail to Funtown.  Until then, join up, and let other Arizona residents know about us.

Wii event/giveaway this weekend

Howdy, DtoidPhoenicians, Got a short little reminder here that Nintendo is doing some promotional events all along the west coast, and they have thought to include Phoenix in that. Check out the flyer above, or if it's too small to read the details, here they are again:

Arrowhead Towne Center
7700 W. Arrowhead Towne Center
Glendale, AZ 85308-8612

Friday, August 13th, 10 AM to 9 PM
Saturday, August 14th, 10 AM to 9 PM
Sunday, August 15th, 11 AM to 6 PM

The giveaways are unspecified, so it could be as nice as a new Wii and as lame as one of those miniature Wiimote keychain flashlights. And the asterisk lets us know that the giveaways will go as long as supplies last, so if you really want some possibly useless Nintendo-flavored swag, get there early on Friday.

Also, Dtoid City Group leader Tactix wanted me to remind you guys about the Google Map for Destructoid denizens. If you haven't pinned yourself up there yet (whether you live in Phoenix or not), go do that! You may find somebody near you.

And lastly, if you are in Phoenix and would like to keep abreast of the situations, join our Google Group! It's currently a bit small (roughly five or so members), so we're looking to expand it. It will keep you up to date on events like this Wii one, and any parties that we may throw in the future. Go check it out!   read

Introducing DtoidPhoenix!

From the ashes, we rise up...

I mean, hello everybody! I mentioned in a recent DtoidLosAngeles blog that I don't live in Los Angeles any more. I live in Phoenix! Hence, DtoidPhoenix.

I don't know why it took me moving to this beautiful city for there to be a group for it, but hopefully we can get some people together to play some games and eat some food and drink some beverages! I don't have much else to say. Send an email to [email protected], or join our new Google Group! Keep up with the news, and come hang out! In the blistering heat!   read
