Fucking Fanboys.

So the PS3 just might turn out to be better than the Xbox360. Then how would we feel? I say more power to Sony More great game systems = more great games = more happier gamers. Well, for the most part. It also = more console wars (i.e. fanboyism. I am really starting to tire of that word, by the way. Please overlook the fact that I have used it twice). I was a sworn Sony advocate since my preteens (walkman, anyone?) but really got behind the brand after witnessing the power of the PS-double. Next came the Xbox, and the just like that, PS2 was gone and forgotten like an old porno you have seen too many times. Sony (in regards to their latest gaming console) has been in trouble since their insane jump-off of the PS3 around this time last year, and gamers, myself included, who had the same love for PS2 that I had/have, abandoned them. Sony has been ever since trying to claw their way back into people's homes, one misguided step at a time.

Now that it's starting to look like they may be getting their proverbial shit together, a comeback of sorts may be in the works for the PS3. And what will happen then? Will Xboxers purchase another system for their entertainment center? Or provided that PSN somehow exceeds the quality of Xbox Live, (a difficult but certainly not impossible feat) will they ditch their 360s altogether and go to the darkside? (Trust, my little pwny isn't going any damn where) And if something like that happens, will Sony ever take us back with open arms? I suppose they will have no choice if they want to compete, however it would be hard not to feel a slight twinge of shame after the the majority of us gamers (as well as many online publications, including Destructoid) publicly rebuke not just the system, but Sony as a company. But all they want to do is make us happy.

Yes, yes I know they are primarily in this business to make loads of that sweet, sweet gamer cash, but each of the companies behind the 3 current-gen systems are doing their best to make sure that they give us something good in exchange for that cash. They have to be, because the alternative in the competitive gaming marketplace today is death. I am also aware that none of these companies really give a fuck about me personally as much as they do my killer consumer instincts. I think this is just coming from the guilt that I sometimes feel from my disloyalty and mockery of a company that has brought so much joy in the past, just because something better came along. People, I have a dream. A dream that these two systems can co-exist. Separately but equally.

Yes, I just went there.

When you say their doing their best to make a good system, Sony recently sold and stopped funding their R&D Cell division.

Hopefully, they will start to learn from their mistakes, bring out a nice new (cheep) PS3, good games etc.

Loyalty in a corporation is just silly though.

I don't and will probably never own a PS3, just want to make that clear first.
@wardox - The last two setences of your comment pretty much sum it up. I don't even know where this post came from. I have been up for 24 hours now smoking cigarettes and other things then this happened. I guess I just got to thinking about the characteristic of loyalty and the funny way that it plays itself out in the gaming community. Or, to be more precise, how it does not.

i like your blog man... nice to see an actual blog on this site

the problem nowadays is that people are so obsessed about being down with the gang. its like politics, almost. i'm liberal and i'm conservative etc... theres no dialog, just badmouthing and scaremongering

i got a 360, because its the most valuable machine with the games i want to play right now. i want the ps3 to have awesome games and i think it will shine in time. they just need to put out that killer app. will FFXIII be the one? or MGS4? i doubt it, it won't win over new consumers.

in time, developers have learned how to make that killer app for the ps3, and then 360 is history. especially when dvd becomes obsolete

The brands don't care about you, other than as a means of making money, so why should you have any sort of emotional investment in them? I just go with what looks like the best system for me at any given time. I was a PS1 and PS2 fan, but I went with Xbox this generation. Why? Because aside from the shitty hardware, they are looking like the best choice at this point. I wasn't going to spend a significant amount of money on a console that could be great, I wanted one that already was.

It's all up to personal choice, though, and the more companies in the running the better it is for us. People getting behind one brand and bashing another is pretty funny to me, because both are equally evil/good in the big picture. It all boils down to what they offer, and what you prefer. In other words, a "what have you done for me lately?" mindset works the best I think.

yeah i've felt that tug of the heart whenever i witness sony hate. sony's been the electronics brand for me since i was a kid and i had never had any problem with their products (srsly...my 1985 Sony TV is still up and running while my Samsung HDTV bit the dust a few weeks ago)

Yeah, I also had a Walkman (well, they called it a CD Walkman) during my teen years. As for my gaming consoles, I had an NES and a Genesis, but it’s been all three PlayStations since then. I agree with the others who lauded this article...I must’ve missed this because it got pushed down by some damn spam.
