Despite going down 3 - 0 early in the second period and being 7 points behind the Canadians in the standings, the Rangers came back to win 5 - 3. It looks like Montreal's hopes of catching up with Ottawa and passing San Jose for third in the league are faining, but hey the long NHL season is only just over half over. Gotta love hockey. Most exciting sport in my book.
I did some math and it looks like the Rangers are going to have to go 18 - 1 in the next 19 games to have a reasonable chance of winning the Atlantic Divisions. Which isn't that much of an achievement anyway, I don't think; they can do it.

It was actually a fun game to watch, and kinda got me in the mindset before the super bowl.

I'm all smiles about the Sharks being there. Despite being Canadian they've been my favorite team since I knew what hockey was.
I'd revise your list to: Anaheim, Detroit, San Jose, Ottawa (unfortunately)

Now with Ottawa being on that list, this is only half true. Yes they are very good, but are ravaged of injuries right now and are slowly falling.
And Dallas should be on that list because they have the same amount of points as San Jose, and are competitive in the 2nd hardest division in the league (Behind the Northwest). It isn't like the old days when Dallas would feast on the Pacific, kinda like Detroit does now.

(Disclaimer: As a fan, I hate Ottawa, but I have to be objective.) I think Ottawa belongs there because the injuries will go away in time for the play-offs.
The Stars actually have two more points then the Sharks, but the Sharks have played four fewer games so their points per game is decidedly higher (1.25 over 1.2); the Sharks are also on an upward trend, as is big Joe. I know they're still close, but you have to draw the line somewhere. I'd include Montreal as easily as Dallas. So... I'd say you could either go with mine, or if we want to include Dallas, also include Ottawa and Montreal.
If you look at the league standings, I mean, the only clearly elite team is the Red Wings.

Oh, and Nabokov for the Vezina!
(# 17) on 02/03/2008 22:12
Now, I was aware that the Sharks had played less games. I still believe Dallas should be up there but their Playoff performance depends on if Turco decides to play like Season Turco or Playoff Turco.
Yes by looking at the Rankings, Detroit is the only elite team. But they also feast on their division. Nashville, Columbus, Chicago and St.Louis, These aren't bad teams but none of them are above 8th. If Detroit was in a stronger division such as the NW or Pacific, I believe they wouldn't have the 80+ points they have right now.
Also, Nabokov should be a front runner for Vezina, But I think you gotta give it to Osgood. This is Like a Miracle Season for him.

Seriously, though, I was really hoping that the Rangers’ season would have gone much better than it actually has. But, hey...as long as they get into the playoffs, I’ll be happy...because as the New York Giants showed, that’s all you need.

If I had a team I might actually watch hockey, but no team I really feel I could get behind.
