XBox Live Multiplayer

Small rant:

Why does playing multiplayer games on the 360 have to be such a pain? Let us walk through this.

1. Start game
2. Select Multiplayer
3. Pick a mode
4. Wait
5. Can't connect
6. Goto 1 (what?)

(Time elapsed: 1-5 minutes)

So where is the game list? Where do I pick my low ping game from a list? Why has this not made the jump from the PC to the console game world? At what point did someone who'd never played a PC game decide this was a good system? When it does work, who knows what I'm going to get? Anywhere from lag city to a bunch of assholes.

That is all.

Usually works fine for me. Of course I have a speedy connection and almost excusively play with friends, so both those problems are rarely an issue for me.

Sounds like the matching system for Gears of War 2 and Farcry 2. They were mildly annoying to connect, but it sure is fun to play!

Also @ZOMBUTLER; lol.

Yeah. It's not a problem when playing with friends. Thought I'd just give some general playing a go and was quickly discouraged. Next time with more tits.

Yeah, a lot of games have moved to shitty matchmaking. The original Gears of War had a server list so you could choose your options and the best connection. Fear 2 also does this. I fucking hate matchmaking and Gears 2 is a colossal piece of shit due in part to matchmaking.

i don't prefer to join random games at all. i don't like matchmaking because i got game and friends to play with so no.

and i like a level playing feild when i play and to me that means that i play whoever is in the room, not a room filled with people at my skill level. i believe if ya don't play against people who are better than you, you won't really get better quicker. if i want to get better at sf2hd i won't play lesser people but way better people. matchmaking is an excuse for lack of skill and prevents others from progressing if they use it.

In the amount of time waiting to find a match in Big Team Social on Halo, I could have played an entire match of Ground War in CoD4. IMO CoD is the only game that does matchmaking right, where no matter what I always find a match within seconds, not hours.

Instead of comparing it to PC online gaming, just compare it to the Wii's system, and you'll be happy.

I love when people act like playing on Live is so easy, and yet I find playing on the PC to be far more quick and manageable. I was playing L4D with some friends on 360 and waiting to find a game, and during this I loaded the PC version on Steam and found a quick game to play while I wait within seconds. The party system is a step in the right direction, but with so many connection errors and people getting kicked, the Xbox team has a long way to go before it's comparable to the superior online experience on the PC.

Xbox live is a joke, you pay for time that you never will use because you have to sleep lol. Plus parents love xbox live for their kids so they can go party. Win Win situation for Microsoft and parents yay! But ya all matchmaking sucks the internets are a tricky thing.

 about me

Random Info:

I love retro games, particularly of the SCUMM adventure and gold-boxed type. I collect games that I consider to be top notch so I don't have a huge collection but the ones in it count.

A woman ran off with my NES and SNES and all the games (~50 or so).

These days I mostly play EVE Online and whatever is fun and multiplayer on the 360 and PC, and when I have time, the large stack of games I've been meaning to play (mostly RPGs in that stack).
