All the cool kids are talking about Sam & Max at the moment, so if you haven't played Season 1 yet I'd say give that a try.
I've been sitting on copies of Scratches and Keepsake for more than a year now. I still haven't gotten around to opening them, but apparently Scratches sold well enough to warrant a second Director's Cut release. Might be worth looking into.
Scratches is pretty good. You can try Missing or Evidence if you haven't played those but they veer toward ARGs with using the internet to solve puzzles in the games. You can always go good with any B. Sokal game: Syberia, Syberia 2 or even Paradise. Barrow Hill is another good one I recently played....plus I finally got around to playing through The Black Mirror and Darkfall but those kinda mediocre.
If you haven't played some of the older stuff, I wholeheartedly recommend Full Throttle, the Indiana Jones games, the original Monkey Island games, Day of the Tentacle. I also highly recommend the 4 part indie adventure series here: http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/games.htm (5 Days a Stranger, 7 Days a Skeptic, Trilby's Notes, and 6 Days a Sacrifice). I actually didn't realize that Sacrifice had been released yet until I pulled the link for you, so I'm going to play it right now.
FULL THROTTLE is awesome. Truly the best adventure game I ever did play was grim fandango
Ooo, I forgot about the Trilby games. Yes, play those. You may even want to pony up for the extended version the author has -- I know a fella that swears by them over the free versions.
You have the Broken Sword series.
One and two were fairly good, i still dont get the 3d thing of the third one but is ok.
I loved dreamfall. Great game, great history.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I love some adventure games and have played most of the classics and was just looking for something new that has a nice, deep story to it.
If you have ever missed the old LucasArts games: The Dig is highly recommended as well.
