Game collection update: It's been how long?! -edition
doifX | 9:27 AM on 07.27.2010 9 comments

So. Yeah. It's been a while since I last updated this blog. A little over half a year to be precise. Time sure does fly, since it almost feels like yesterday to me. Anyhoo, in that time I have gotten my hands on some games, and I'm here to show them to you.

I decided to split the games into two blog posts, this first one containing the ones I bought from bargain bins, flea markets and online stores, and the second one containing my ebay finds.

Also, I want to say something about the nature of this blog: My hauls will never be as big as Funktastic's or Chillybilly's. This is mostly because:
a)I don't have that much money. I make about 60€ a month, which would almost get me two new DS games.
b)There are NO game stores even remotely close to where I live.
c)I still live with my parents, who don't really understand videogames or appreciate the fact that I spend all my money on them. And my room is quite small, so space is an issue as well.

So definitely not the ideal circumstances for a collector.

Anyway, let's get down to business:

Alright, from bargain bins, some PS2 games. SMT: Digital Devil Saga, Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria and Zone of The Enders 2: Special Edition (though I don't think there even was a regular edition in Europe). I finished DDS a while ago, and I really enjoyed it, apart from the final dungeon which was a bit annoying. I really want to play the second one to see how the story continues, but I've heard that the ending is a massive disappointment.

PS2 version of Max Payne and a second copy of Demolition Girl. Like my first one, it was only 2€. For that price, I'll buy anything.

Some PSP games. Wipeout Pulse, Crush and God of War: Chains of Olympus. I've heard that Crush is actually a really good puzzler, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Next up, some DS games. Izuna: Legend of The Ninja, Flower, Sun & Rain, Fire Emblen: Shadow Dragon and Dragon Quest: Chapters of The Chosen. Fire Emblem and Dragon Quest are pretty good, haven't played the other two.

Ninjatown, Megaman ZX Advent, Rhythm Heaven and Secret Files: Tunguska. I love Ninjatown. All of you who don't yet own it, I strongly suggest you buy it. It's dirt cheap anyways. I'm still searching for a copy of the first Megaman ZX. The pal-version seems to be quite rare for some reason.

I don't usually buy games at launch because, you know, they're expensive and all that. I had to make an exception for Ace Attorney Investigation: Miles Edgeworth, though. I love the Ace Attorney series, and couldn't just wait for it to go down in price. That copy of Crash Bandicoot 3 was found by odber, who is always scouring the flea markets for rarities. I played this game all the time when I was a kid. I think I may even have completed it, at least I remember getting the apple bazooka or whatever.

On a visit to my local flea market I found a boxed copy of Super Mario 64 (no manual, though) and a CIB copy of Boktai. When I got home, though, I found out that the cartridge for Boktai was broken. Oh well, it was worth the 10€ just for the box, manual and leaflets.

An online store here in Finland was having a pretty neat summer sale, and I managed to snag Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 for the PS2 and Penumbra Collection for the PC.

We went on a trip to Sweden, and there I stumbled into a store called GAME. They were having an awesome sale on used PS2 games. I got 2 copies of MGS2: Sons of Liberty(with bonus DVD), Zone of The Enders and Steambot Chronicles.

Also from GAME, Beyond Good & Evil, Devil May Cry and Space Invaders: Invasion Day. I had never even heard of this game, it seems to be some kind of post-apocalyptic take on Space Invaders with a story and everything. Weird.

And lastly, we have Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and Space Channel 5. Once again, these were found by odber.

And there you have it. I'll post the next collection blog in about a week, so stay tuned for that. I'm also trying to come up with a name for this blog. Funktastic has his Compulsive Collector's Haul and Chillybilly has his Emporium of Curious Collectables, so naturally I need something as well. If you've got something in mind, I'm open to suggestions.

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

I'd never heard of Space Invaders Invasion Day either. Sounds amazing.

I don't know what Demolition Girl is but I like the sound of it.

Yeah, Demolition Girl, wearing a bikini in Seattle with F-14s flying around. I might need to get 2 copies myself.

I'm FUNKTASTIC and I approve this blog! ^_^ I see you're starting off the whole collecting thing around the age I did . . . *sigh* . . . memories, hahaha!

Your first picture alone is pretty much full of win, although, since you're a European and all, it just "bugs" me that Atlus games don't have Atlus on their cover over there! =P Also, seeing Izuna without "Unemployed" in the title and then saying it out loud just seems awkward to me. Thank jeebus for someone else who possibly loves Ninjatown at much as I did. I'm also pretty sure that looking at the box, you got yourself a NTSC version of Boktai. It's so crazy seeing Koei on the Persona 3 FES case, then Atlus AND Square Enix on the Persona 4 one.

Quite the haul and such you have there mate! Plus, you get way cooler exclusives/special editions (well, at least in regards to consoles), compared to us North Americans. As for name suggestions, how about "A Finn's Fantastic Finds"?

Finally, did you take the pictures on like a "rock" blanket?

@Funk - about that rock blanket, I was wondering the same thing.

Also, nice haul, as for a name... hmm, can't think of anything clever right now.

@Funktastic that's an awesome name!

Yeah, it sucks that Atlus doesn't publish their games in Europe. That also means We don't get all of their games, like Persona PSP and Strange Journey (someday I'm going to buy the special editions of both, even if I have to resort to ebay). And you're right, my Boktai is indeed the NTSC version. Oh, and that's an awesome name you came up with. If I don't come up with anything better myself (and I won't, since I have no imagination in these kinds of things), then I'll take it!

@Funk and grafkhun
I take the pictures on my bed, which does indeed have a blanket that looks like a pile of rocks. Here's a more zoomed out picture of my bed:
