On MW2, IW, Activision and the precedent it sets...
We get it, you don't own a gaming PC and we know you are happy with your consoles, since a lot of us own consoles too.
Being accused of piracy and elitism when we are just demonstrating our concern for the lack of a feature that's been the center of online gaming on the PC for a long time, it's unfair and frankly, I don't know how many strangers to PC gaming seem to know, better than us, how would we enjoy better our games or what missing features shouldn't affect us.
We all are here because we love video games, and when a sector of the community is affected by any circumstance, this shouldn't be a cue to marginalize and hate it; even more so, when there is a lack of knowledge on the problem, resulting in a lot of bigotry and unnecessary fights.
We don't want you to agree with us, we are not asking for your sympathy, we know we are a minority and that consoles are the priority to developers and publishers, but it is our choice to play on the PC and we (at least I, dj anon) ask you kindly to
shut the fuck up and just play console games, after all, you are not pc gamers, right?
Disclaimer: I know generalizations are always unfair, so I'm obviously not talking to the entire Dtoid community, you know where you stand, anyway.
Also, bewbs.
I'm sorry, but I simply can't agree with this at all. My understanding of what you have written is that those who "boycott" MW2, but still attain the game by less than savory methods, are in fact demonstrating concern for their chosen platform? That's pure horseshit.
You achieve absolutely nothing by pirating the game*. You are not sticking it to the man; I doubt Infinity Ward even cares if you do not buy the game, since you would not have bought it anyway. Nothing changes. The game still does not support dedicated servers, and you have still not actually purchased the game.
Now, I am far from unsympathetic. I do prefer to play first-person shooters on the PC, and I was somewhat disappointed to learn that it would be following a matchmaking model. But, having played the first Modern Warfare on the Xbox 360, I can say that matchmaking works. Infinity Ward is most likely doing this as a form of quality assurance, since matchmaking systems are simply more efficient. There are generally fewer servers to query, none of the servers are being run out of someone's basement (or worse, off an old mid-tower they found in the attic), and the master server doesn't have to waste time pinging hundreds of empty servers run by 13-year-old boys in their spare time.
Yes, matchmaking takes away what is "unique" about PC multiplayer, but unique is not always better, and I would advise that everyone currently whining about the PC multiplayer at least try the new system. For srs.
TL;DR - Matchmaking isn't that bad, STFUAJPPCG (Shut The Fuck Up And Just Play Personal Computer Games)
*Please note that I am not addressing you, the poster, directly by using the second person pronoun "you". I am using it to address PC gamers as a whole. If this still seems offensive in some way, then please keep in mind that I also consider myself a PC gamer, and I am not so low on self-esteem that I would take pleasure in ridiculing myself.
STFUAJPPCG... and we are doing that, at least I am, I just won't be playing the sequel for a game that decided to remove a lot of features it already had.
The only thing that will decide which platform I buy MW2 for will be whether I decide to aim with an analog stick or a mouse.
Here's your flaw in logic.
Dedicated servers AND matchmaking is the way to go. Abandoning Dedicated Servers, then praising that decision is a step BACKWARDS.
As for the rest, the boobs made me forget my comment.
Magnalon is right. One of the reasons I put 500 hours of multiplayer into MW, is because of all the freedom and liberty it provided. A vast variety of mods, huge 32v32 player matches, and the ability to customize the game in whatever ways you wanted. Not to mention free dlc and regular updates. Now I look at MW2's option, and it looks like a major step backwards.
The reasons Activision and IW (although, I have reason to believe that this is more Activision's decision) are doing this is because they can and they simply don't care for the PC community. They know this game will sell incredibly well, and they want to make sure they have as much control of it as possible. Matchmaking isn't horrible. It does work. But compared to what PC had, it's nothing. In this case unique, as you mentioned, is better. A lot better, if I say so myself.
If I still had my pc, I'd be ten times more pissed off about the whole situation. When people used to say "PC gaming is dead/dying," I would reply "No way, there's tons of great stuff here." Now, I'm starting to see otherwise. It's saddens me, really.
@dj-anon
Bewbs to sweeten the deal, I like that.
LOL
Would you STFU already about that? Your being no better than the elitist PC fuckers who make pc gamers look bad. PC gaming is not dead, and it will never die. Go crawl back in your hole and stop posting.
