On one boring night I went to find something to play. I randomly found my Sims 2 install disc and thought I would give it another go. Not exciting, but it does kill time. The unfortunate thing is that the case for the CD was nowhere to be found. So I was stuck looking for something else to waste my time on. Luckily, I remember Portal. I had it, hadn't played it and had been meaning to for some time. I believe I'm in Test Room 18(or have just passed it), and came across the event that had already been spoiled for me, so if you haven't played it you may not want to continue reading.
"The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube cannot speak. In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice."
And I suppose it didn't really speak to me, and really I had no trouble dumping the thing in the incinerator. I wonder though, how much of that was due to the fact that I already knew our relationship would be short lived. I figured with how excited people were with The Weighted Companion Cube that you may have actually had it in your possession longer than that. I like the fan art and fan crafts(?) that it inspired, but for me, at the time, The Weighted Companion Cube was part of an objective. To move forward, you must part with it, adorable hearts and all.
I had more of an emotional reaction after the fact. When GLaDOS told me I had done it faster than any other test subject I stopped for a minute and wondered. I knew it was scripted, but that was the first moment I felt attached to my Weighted Companion Cube or felt bad for dumping it so quickly. How could I do that without caring? Was it only because I knew ahead of time that the end of my cube was so close or am I just a bad person.
Now this is as far as I've gotten in the game, so I don't want to know anymore plot points or events. I just wanted to share my guilt.

I'm sorry. I won't do it again...
@lem
Like I've said, I've only just done this, and haven't progressed any farther in the game than that, so if they do show it I wouldn't know. When I looked in the incinerator its was firey doom.
If that is the case it is purely for technical reasons. For all intensive purposes, he is burned in a fiery doom, that's canon.
