This was Nintendos big thing at E3 this year. A goddamn step. A step that senses your balance. I honestly didn't think it was possible for Ninty to invent a way to make people look even more like special ed kids holding sparklers while playing games, but I stand corrected. This makes flailing around with a wiimote in hand look dignified.
You would think, since the Wii is still in its first year of life, that Nintendo would try to develop and experiment with the far from perfect mechanics of the wiimote some more, since it is the consoles' bread and butter. This electronic exercise step is just some gimmicky tool Nintendo is using to draw more "non-gamers" towards the Wii, an act that is quickly alienating people who actually enjoy playing "games." And by games, I mean stuff that transports you away from the real world. Things that actually require some skill to play. Things that you can sit down and play for hours on end, alone or with friends. Not something that you lean from side to side on, all the while looking like a goon. And do people seriously expect to use this thing for more than 15 minutes at a time? Call me crazy, but after a few rousing rounds of "virtual hula hoop", I think I would call it quits and re-evaluate what I was spending my free time on.
Am I alone in this? What kind of games could they expect to create for this? All I could come up with was a surfing or skateboarding game. Other than that, its just going to be the same Wii Play crap that becomes lame after the first few times you play it. Maybe I'm just jaded, like that Aerosmith song. Maybe I'm just angry that Super Mario Galaxy and SSBB are taking so damn long to be released. All I know is this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iYBmAVuBns) portrays exactly how I feel. Whats up Nintendo?
I couldn't get the video to embed. Just copy and paste, unless clicking the mouse a few extra times makes you angry.
Dammit, I fail at picking the right line from ImageShack.

Either way, it's not like Nintendo is turning their back on everyone. Games are still coming out, they're just branching out to other areas. You act like someone from Nintendo personally came and shit in your coffee.
Of course it was a dissapointing to hardcore gamers but it pretty much stole the fire from anyone else for the mainstream. And since all this complaining about Nintendo totally abandoning the hardcore isn't actually correct who cares if they're getting even more attention. Still...No Brawl! Come on...
I don't really agree with your assesment of Wii Fit. I think it's a neat idea, considering what the system has become. I have nothing against the Wii, or Nintendo, but I completely disagree that they are looking after the hardcore gamer and just "branching out".
I personally can't wait for it. I have a hard time exercising as it is, if it helps, more power (and money) to them. Plus, it'll be another game my wife will enjoy with me as well... and those are priceless.
Don't worry, it's ok young one, you can be hardcore and still like Nintendo. There's plenty room on the N-Bus for both types of crowd. There was already TONS of hardcore gamer love announced for the remainder of this year by Nintendo...nothing wrong with them giving up some R&D for our new casual friends.
Life goes on, play what you want. Game industry growth whether it comes in the form of hardcore OR casual is still game industry growth and is ultimately a GOOD thing.

Wow.. Riserglen just took the words right out of my mouth.
I wouldn't bitch about how crap the Wii Fit is until the games start coming out for it, and no I am not counting the Wii Fit original software.
I don't blame anyone for bitching that it was Nintendo's "big" secret, at least in the fact they mentioned no "real" games for it during E3.
I for one will admit that I'll be getting one.. I mean anything to stay away from the mean ol' thing dubbed El Sol.

I think it's okay - it just shouldn't have been their grand announcement at the conference.
