I am twenty six years old, and I'm OBSESSED with soda (Coke), Poptarts (Strawberry), and video games. I live a pretty boring life at the moment, take up most of my time playing games and waiting for the new edition to the family... My wife and I are expecting our first child in July, and I couldn't be happier. I am really into all forms of music, but mainly black metal, death metal, and some grindcore.
Born and raised in California, I also like some old west coast punk rock.
In this blog I plan to cover all kinds of things, movie reviews, game reviews... as well as venting, ranting and my thoughts on everything.
If you don't like what I have to say, move on.
From time to time, when I have the goods(heh), I plan on giving away some free stuff, could be anything from a used console to a dvd.
All in all, I just love DTOID and all it has to offer.

Xbox 360 - New dashboard/Halo wars

So there is the new dashboard for the xbox 360... I think it looks nice dont you think?

Its just that I have a small problem with it, it looks way to much like XBMC (homebrew app) for the XBOX 1. From the game covers to RSS styled feeds... not to mention it also plays "streaming tv"... all before they ever had the idea to do so. Then we have the "Mii" look alikes as well. I guess they are just trying to grab the attention of all markets, and I dont see anything wrong with that... thats the point isnt it?

But back to my point, this isnt the first time I have seen them rip off other peoples independent work on homebrew apps/games.

Lets move on....

Halo wars.. an XBOX exclusive, THEIR idea to make an RTS out of Halo right? Wrong...
Once again.. ripped off homebrew. This was a game being made by a team of homebrew devs using Halo 2. Take a look here... seen in "Halogen" for the XBOX (remember this is running on Halo 2) sporting a total conversion of Halo.

Looks like Halo Wars right? Just in case you haven't seen Halo Wars here is a small gameplay clip.

I dont know... they seem to get a kick out of it. I remember when Halogen was about 95% complete... MS finally stepped in and ordered them to stop working on it, which is fine.. it was their code, their game being modded. Then... months later.. Halo Wars was announced. Funny how things work... from playing games on the HDD, RSS Feeds, Dashboards, Games... (most of their new announcements) I would say over 70% of it was taken from the homebrew scene of XBOX 1... I wonder how many more things they can call their own.

Stop asking me so many rhetorical questions...

I HATE to new look of the dashboard. I really like the look we have now. Why the fuck do they want to change it too look boring like in the first vid? Doesn't make sense to me...

Halo was originally an RTS so the idea was always there, they did not steal it from anyone

And I like the new dash, I wonder why everyone seems to dislike it

You dont find it strange that they allowed (everyone knew it was being made...) them to keep making it for 3 yrs... and as soon as it was near completion, they stuck their lawyers on them. THEN all the sudden announce an RTS?

The dash reminds me too much of Apple TV/XBMC.

Dephect: They shut it down because they were going to do one of their own. They don't care about Halo homebrew games, but if someone makes a game that is the exact same as what they're doing, then no one will buy it. That's why they shut it down. Don't know about the timing.

Also, isn't the dash looking like that a good thing, then?

And yes, Halo was originally an RTS.

Stop harassing me. If you don't like my blog, don't read it. I have no desire to read about your family, or the 360 dashboard, but that doesn't mean I'll come on here and harass you about it. I'll simply avoid reading it in the first place. You need to grow up and do the same instead of flaming every blog I post.
