First off, it's more me getting angry at how people take that Daigo vid and go,"OIMAIGAWD, DAIGO IS THE BEST AT 3S GUIZ!" than it is Crunshii's fault.
People that really know what they are saying know that Daigo is no god at any game he plays. No one is really as long as there is someone else gunning for that #1 spot.
And besides that, the vid I'm sharing showcases AMAZING play by Japanese and American players. Look at the long-ass-I-didn't-even-know-you-could-do combos. There's the top Urien play that leaves many people thinking he was/is slept on more than he deserves. THE FUCKING DUDLEY CHAINS, FUCKING DUDLEY. There's some great Yang play that shows how great he is than the consensus that he is a shitty Yun. The vid even ends with Daigo's parry, because yes, it is amazing, but the crowd and the hype surronding that vid is what really make it special.
So there Cataract. :D NOW GET SF4 AND GET YOUR HONDA 'S ASS IN GEAR FOR THE TEAM.
This video does go to put in perspective that while Daigo's clearly a great player, that the single act of parrying Chun-Li's super isn't so rare in high levle play.
I think you definitely hit the nail on the head with your thoughts behind the infamous Daigo parry. With enough practice and knowledge of Chun-Li, it's definitely possible, considering it's shown multiple times from multiple players throughout the vid. But what is really amazing is that he was able to pull it off under the pressure of the final rounds at the worlds largest fighting game tournament/convention. I wouldn't call Daigo the best, but he certainly is amazing.
Oh, and now I'm going to check under my bed before I sleep because of Urien. That fucker scares the shit out of me now.
The Daigo parry is awesome, but the fact that he did it in the final round, with a conference room packed full of people screaming and having no life left whatsoever so even a single blocked hit would mean the match, that's just amazing.
And when the crowd loses their minds at the end, simply brilliant.
funny thing is, a lot of people probably don't know he played Guilty Gear too and well...yea.
though I do tire of people constantly linking to the Wong/Daigo match when there's a bajillion other matches out there much better. (A certain Kuroda match with Hugo bitching some random Jap Ryu player comes to mind.)
then there's all the other matches out there. (I don't remember who it was, but there's a match of a rather crazy Akuma with some nasty Demon flip mixups out there on youtube.)
Idk man, Daigo was the best at some point, don't compare that to the legions that he inspired to follow in his footsteps. He also currently holds the SF4 world champion title.
@GuitarAtomic
Nah man, I've met really nice guys who played as main Urien. In fact, never met an asshole who played the game personally in face-to-face experiences.
Daigo won at EVO in 2004...big fucking whoop. It's American players. I'm sorry but as one I can say with 100% accuracy, we don't hold a fucking candle to Japanese players. They had more time with, a stronger following, and general better execution overall.
LOL..."that's how it works" <---ESTE WEY(That's for RAB and Knives to get :3)
I love watching Makoto and Necro stun combos. They're like fine art. I should probably drink wine and eat rare cheeses while I watch them.
I also loved the Q and Hugo matches, it's always awesome to see players turn those matches around. I think there was a clip in there from that match where Kuroda took down the entire US team with Q, which is MY personal favorite 3S video.
lol nice try de Bloo. My blog might not be the best but honestly I didn't do it for a Blog Award, lol.
Puppy Licks pretty muched summed up what would have been my answer, not to mention that Daigo had 00000000000000HP and was about to loose the championship and waiting for the other player to make his move while some ass**** in the background goes screaming: "GO JUSTING!" which adds to the pressure to you when you are 1 weak punch to death In the friggin Finals.
And I not sure but... I just found it amusing, coincidental, brilliant or just dumb founded, lol not sure which one to pick that your entire blog talks smack about Daigo's fight yet... and the video you uploaded has him as the star ending fight LOL.
I'm sorry but as one I can say with 100% accuracy, we don't hold a fucking candle to Japanese players. They had more time with, a stronger following, and general better execution overall.
whoawhoawhoaWHOA stop right there. Now you're making it seem like top american players can't even touch Japanese players which isn't true. While Japanese may have a overall easier time to play arcade matches with others, it doesn't mean they're not gods at fighters. YES they're overall better with accuracy and timing than Americans, but that doesn't mean we still can't take them down.
don't sit there and act like top american players train to phail against Japanese players. At least Wong CAN beat Daigo. It's not like Japanese players OCV American players.
The best an American has ever done in a japanese tournament was like win 1 match. And that was this year, and Vinnie has been playing 3rd Strike exclusively since he was 14, now 17(It's on the WestCoastWarzone archived Livestream somewhere)
Don't assume I'm sitting around pounding on this keyboard like some mad man guys.
the thing I always found amazing about Daigo's parry was that HE SAW IT COMING. That's his single greatest skill. There are many players that are better at execution, combos, parrying, whatever, but Daigo always seems to have an edge when it comes to READING YOUR FUCKING MIND.
That said, he's obviously not invincible, he's arguably not even the best SFIV player. He lost the Japanese title to Iyo (SICK matches). And he embarrassed Wong earlier this year but that was an exhibition (might I add, he got there after another SICK semifinal against Iyo, where he came up on the winning end). I don't think there's a "World Champion" of SFIV, correct me if I'm wrong.
yeah that daigo parry video is pretty played out. that full chun parry stuff is pretty commonground nowadays. I wanna see somebody parry uriens aegis unblockables tho. that'd be some shit.
dont care much for 3s but yeah when this video started going around it definately made me want to get back in to it. shame theres more than like 10 years worth of a skill gap tho haha.
but yeah i'm working on forcing the red ring on my e 74'd xbox so that i can send it out but it just aint happenin. gonna keep trying tho cause im not tryin to spend 100bucks for them to fix it. whens that crazy tournament thing you were talking about?
All this back-and-forth above is what turns me off from the whole "serious fighter" scene. People seem to lose sight of the fucking FUN part of the experience.
i'm not butthurt or anything i just don't see how you can be so specific about what makes a player "good". i know SF3-3 is a big tournament game, but if this guy can beat japs at SFA3 then he's pretty damn good in my book. as an outsider to the world of making a huge deal out of street fighter, he's still easily the most recognizable name regardless of what clip it's attached to.
i still stand by my original comment, but on further reading daigo has won more national championships than world ones so i guess it's fair to say he's not conclusively the best.
Crap, just when I was starting to warm up to SF IV, you had to go and post a video (as blurry as it is) which nicely sums up many of the reasons that the game totally pales to 3rd Strike.
If i didn't love 3rd Strike so much, SF IV probably would have seemed great to me, but losing so many of my favorite SF3 characters and almost all of the gameplay mechanics I had grown to love was just too much.
I really hope we haven't seen the end of CPS-III quality, sprite based Street Fighters.
Stop comparing sf4 to third strike.
Sf4 = Sf3: New Generation = Sf2 world warrior = SfAlpha.
It might not be the best but is def better than alpha and the most balanced of them.

I'll choke slam Daigo through the concrete street into the sewer if he ever tried to battle me! Do you hear me all of yous Daigo fans? :) Online puzzle games
You guys really are something else, and now every time I look across the office and see this flask I have a concrete reminder of that. Well, other than the countless frames photos of Niero and I with hundreds of community members, that is...

if he wins a world championship in any particular game he plays, then he's the best in the world at it, and that's close enough.
sorry if you don't like that bloo, but that's how it works.

I'm off, the gf want's to myspace and I'm sleepy.
Lets see how this shit turns out in the morning.

Daigo (Ryu) Taiwan champion (Balrog)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGOUVQfUlAQ
Here's the vid of Kuroda beating up Wong and Ricky Ortiz with his Q that Gen Eric was talking about too. So pimp.
Oh and EVO is not the "world championship" for fighting games when Daigo is the only Japanese player who even went to them.
dont care much for 3s but yeah when this video started going around it definately made me want to get back in to it. shame theres more than like 10 years worth of a skill gap tho haha.

[i]Daigo skyrocketed to fame in 1998 after winning the official Capcom Street Fighter Zero 3 national tournament in Japan.n[i]
what about that suggests that daigo can't beat jap players?
It's gonna start late December/Early Jan. so yeah mang.
psycho
Street Fighter Alpha 3?
That's cool, but that isn't relevant, like at all man. We are talking 3rd strike, and being the best Japanese player in SFA3 doesn't seem to matter.
Who called you retarded again?
Knives HIMSELF made it a point to correct me to say wey.
It might just be the superior Mexican talk you can't understand. <3
i still stand by my original comment, but on further reading daigo has won more national championships than world ones so i guess it's fair to say he's not conclusively the best.
he's better than you though :P

It took TEN YEARS for this 3rd strike video to be made.
SF4 is going on its FIRST YEAR.
come on dude. honestly? When 3s first came out people thought they knew everything about it within the first year JUST LIKE SF4. Give it time man.
Sf4 = Sf3: New Generation = Sf2 world warrior = SfAlpha.
It might not be the best but is def better than alpha and the most balanced of them.
