Has the Guitar Hero series hit its peak? (Am I the only one who is bored with it)
david5094 | 9:46 PM on 12.18.2008 8 comments

The first Guitar Hero game I played was Guitar Hero 2 for the xbox 360 about 2 years ago. I remember getting home from Best Buy one night and I couldn't wait to open the package and play it. I called two of my friends over and we rocked out with our socks out the whole night. This went on for a while too. The pattern was, get home from school, eat something then boot up the xbox and get the friends over.

As time went on, the competition between me and my friends was the only thing that kept me going. I wanted to be better than all of them. Until one of my friends would come over every day and just play "Sweet Child o' Mine" until he had it down perfect (that and "Freebird and "Heart-Shaped Box" on the side). Which led to me not playing it very much. Anyway I was bored with GH2 after I failed on "Freebird" pretty hard.

One night a couple of us went to go see a Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd laser show at the Orlando Science Center. It rocked of course - but as we were coming out there was a room we walked past that had Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s. A group of people (about 30) were sitting watching two clusterfucks playing a song on easy. I looked at my friends and we were like "let's rape..."

My Sweet Child O' Mine friend and I went up first and this is where I realized how much I really hated Guitar Hero. I played bass and he played lead and we rocked. I then proceeded to play but I failed.....

"What!?"

"You Fail!"

"No... No this can't be. I failed 'Radar Love???!1111!!?" But how???"

When I went to sit down this woman said to me,

"Wow your friend is really good. Does he play a real guitar?"

Now I have been playing guitar for three years and I know I'm better than my friend but I was so jealous. I never touched Guitar Hero again.

GH3 came out and I passed it up. I laughed as my friend got fed up with "Through the Fire and Flames" by StudioForce.

Then Rock Band came. I was really excited... But I skipped it and I'm glad I did. RB 2 and GH WT have both come out too and I have skipped them both.

Anyway I'm getting lazy now and I don't want to write anymore. My main point to this was I am very bored with Guitar Hero and Rock Band. And all this Studio metal being put into the new versions is really bullshit. I don't want to kill myself I want to have fun.

Most of the real "guitar heros" aren't really in it (IMO, and yes I know they may have some songs but I need more) like Eric Clapton, Hendrix, Page, Vai, Satriani, Wes Montgomery, more Allmans, SRV, Muddy, B.B., Buddy, Eric Johnson, and others.

But, Guitar Hero has done a great deal in helping people discover new music which is always gravy and I'm down for that.

Also, the Beatles game that is coming out looks promising and I'd probably hit that.

Or maybe I just saw this kid:

Anyway

ah, boo fuckin hoo. Every guitar hero since 3 has been complete and utter shit. Harmonix knows how to make damn good rhythm games, anyone who argues otherwise is a fuckin retard. Plain and simple.

You havent even tried the drums? Having just bought rock band two days ago, its extremely definitely 100% worth it.

Also the playing with 2 or 3 friends, perhaps with others watching/waiting, makes it a heck of a lot more fun. Really feels like a band performance, not just you hitting some buttons on a plastic guitar thing. Even singing is fun in that situation.

AND THE FUCKING DRUMS! GO BUY THE DRUMS NOOOOOOW! Or go buy some real drums. That would be good too.

I've simply moved on to Rock Band 2.

You do know that a lot of those artists are in both Rock Band and GH. Also, SRV's Texas Flood album is coming to Rock Band soon so that should spark your interest. Also, drums.

@ Power-Glove - I quote myself: "and yes I know they may have some songs but I need more"

@ Ajaxender - I have tried the drums at my friends house. It is fun but not enough to make me buy the game.

After the split that happened before Guitar Hero 3 and the drastic change in art style to the GH franchise I lost interest. The songs were good, but I was horrified by what they did to Johnny Napalm. I know its silly to bitch about the art style of a music game, but unlike most of the people I know, I payed attention to the characters on screen just as much as I payed attention to the notes and the songs. For Rock Band I love how they let me make whatever character I want (even if people bitch that it doesnt look like me). My only complaint with RB is that I couldnt bring my RB1 character into RB2... OH and Green Grass and High Tides.
