About dTunes:
dTunes originally started as a blog in which I would showcase a new band every week. Soon, I moved on to themes. Every video was meant to be suggested by the community, the themes too. Unfortunately, my own personal tastes kept getting in the way. This time I intend to pick a community member from the Google Group that I made (send me your email if you want in) and let them post their favorite music for a week. By getting rid of the middle man (me) I intend on bringing to life my initial image of dTunes, a place where the community can enrich itself and create a better understanding on the individual members of the community by exploring their personal tastes.
I'm back again for another day of earbleeding tunes. Yesterday was Balzac day, today is going to be something different. You might want to check your volume and turn it up a bit. That's the way these genres should be played. I hate name like Metalcore, Blackmetal and even Mathmetal (who the hell brought up that name?) It's either Hardcore or Metal and today it's exactly that. Hardcore and Metal day. I'm gonna post a couple of bands here. One band gets my main attention but I'll top it off with some other bands too.
Ready or not, here we go!
The first slot and main spot of today's DTunes is reserved for New York's legendary Hardcore/Thrash titans, AGNOSTIC FRONT. They're not the first band in the genre but they're definitely the longest around. Founded back in 1982 by Vinnie Stigma. They took a break for 5 years but they came back in 1997. They pretty much change their line-up with every new album except for two members. Founder and guitar player Vinnie Stigma and singer Roger Miret. Today's line-up:
Pokey - Drums, Joseph James - Guitar, Roger Miret - Vocals, Vinnie Stigma - Guitar, Mike Gallo - Bass
I can honestly say I've seen them every time they performed in The Netherlands. They've visited us every year since 1997. I also have every album on either CD or Vinyl. A lot of pretentious douchebags love to say stuff like "Their new albums are fucking crap, I only like their early work". Which happens a lot with bands that are around for a substantial amount of time (Misfits, Iron Maiden etc.). You can also find these guys in Video Games: "Every thing new is shit. The NES and Dreamcast is what's it's all about.". True, they're great consoles but that doesn't mean the new generation is shit. I'm not talking any shit about people who truly love the old things. I love my Lynx for instance but I don't love stuff just because it's old. I guess they want to sound intelligent or hardcore or something, I don't know. But what I do know is that Agnostic Front keeps making great albums in fact I think they keep getting better and better. That's why I posted mostly new video's, with the exception of the two bonus video's.
Live in 1986 on the Cable Access show. This is what is sounded before. Better or Worse? I can't tell. I love everything they've done.
Agnostic Front - Pauly the Bulldog + Crucified
Now this is something special. Agnostic Front performing Live at the Dynamo Festival. Why special? I was there and you can actually see me in the crowd. The Dynamo Festival was the best festival I've ever been to. 3 days of Metal and Hardcore. Pantera was there too. Which says enough. Too bad the festival is dead and buried because of governmental bullshit.
I have to thank James (Ha-Puken) for pointing me out to the next project/band.
Roadrunner United - In The Fire
King Diamond(King Diamond)- Vocals
Matt Heafy(Trivium)- Lead/Rhythm/Acoustic Guitars
Corey Beaulieu(Trivium)- Lead/Rhythm guitars
Mike D'Antonio(Killswitch Engage)- Bass
Dave Chavarri(Ill Niño)- Drums
We're gonna go out with a bang today. The last band is X-Cops.
X-Cops - Beat you Down
You know Gwar right? Yeah, maybe more by them later. This was a side project composed of members from the metal band GWAR. All members are wearing Police uniforms and they were even opening for GWAR, so basically they were their own supporting act.
* Lt. Louie Scrapinetti - Guitar + Beretta 9 mm (Michael Derks)
* Cadet Billy Club - Drums + Uzi 9 mm (Mike Dunn)
* Patrolman Cobb Knobbler - Bass + .357 Magnum (Dave Brockie)
* Sgt. Al Depantsia - Guitar + Colt .22 (Pete Lee)
* Sheriff Tubb Tucker - Vocals + Shotgun (Casey Orr)
That's it for my second night of dTunes. Hope you've enjoyed it as much as I did. More Metal and Hardcore later. Tomorrow it's time for some old fashioned Punk Rock. Hate this crap? No worries. I'm gonna end my week with some soothing music.
Yours,
Takeshi
Dtunes needs you! Please check the sidebar for more info. Can't do a whole week? No worries, five times one is still five right? Share your music with us!
Please leave your comment behind. I'm really interested in your opinion. Even if you think this music sucks ass. Same goes for any upcoming blogs by other members.
And for all the people who don't feel the need to create their own week of Dtunes. All I can say: it's a lot of fun! Don't you want your favorite band or song to go down in Dtoid history?
Yeah dammit, I can't end my week of Dtunes without posting some great tunes by DJ Bobo and 2Unlimited. I need to get an extra week to post some great 90's Euro-Dance!
Roadrunner United should have been a brilliant idea...but I could talk for ages about how it wasn't...but the gist is: It made during that awful Trivium craze, full of musicians past their creative prime, Roadrunner's narrow musical scope/roster at the time.
Dave Grohl's Probot album was pretty much the same idea but miles better. But that's my opinion and I'm from the internet, so it's already invalid. ;)
@Stevil
I can see what you mean. I agree, and I'm also not the biggest fan of that whole album but I love this song. I'm gonna post my other favorite song tomorrow. Roadrunner as a label is easily surpassed by other labels like Victory Records and Nuclear Blast. But hey, that's just me.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
