dTunes: JT IceFire's Week Day 4: Mash it up
dTunes | 1:12 PM on 11.05.2009 0 comments

Mashups! With DJ Hero out, it's time for the long-hidden art of taking songs and smacking 'em together to hit its long-deserved limelight. Today on dTunes, here's a selection of my favorite megamixes from the past few years.

"Lust Train" by CCC
Ingredients: "Lust for Life" by Iggy Pop, "Last Train to Clarksville" by the Monkees, "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead.

"Mother's Little Regulator" by DJ BC
Ingredients: "Regulate" by Warren G and Nate Dogg, "Mother's Little Helper" by the Rolling Stones, "Don't Stop" by Brazilian Girls

"Radiohead v. Coldplay" by Jirob
Ingredients: "The Scientist" by Coldplay, "High & Dry" by Radiohead
Earlier this week, I said Radiohead used to be Coldplay: here's the proof.

"Dr. Who on Holiday" by Dean Gray
Ingredients: "Holiday" by Green Day, "Rock & Roll part 2" by Gary Glitter, Dr. Who theme song
Part of the sublime American Idiot remix project, "American Edit". The website was C&D'd, but it's painfully easy to find on the dubiously-legal download service of your choice.

"Closer to the Boxer" by the Kleptones
Ingredients: "Think About" by Asheru, "The Boxer" by Simon and Garfunkel, "Close to Me" by the Cure
This is just a small part of the ambitious, movie-quote-heavy double album, 24 Hours. Check it out here: http://www.kleptones.com/pages/downloads_24h.html

"Chocolate Radiohead" by Jay Smooth
Ingredients: "Chocolate Rain" by Tay Zonday, "Talk Show Host" by Radiohead
As a longtime Radiohead fan, I find it truly eerie how easily these songs fit together.

Alright! One day left. Tomorrow, I'll go into some of my favorite tunes from the reason we're all here on Dtoid: the videogames. Seeya then.

Comments policy

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

About dTunes:
dTunes originally started as a blog in which I would showcase a new band every week. Soon, I moved on to themes. Every video was meant to be suggested by the community, the themes too. Unfortunately, my own personal tastes kept getting in the way. This time I intend to pick a community member from the Google Group that I made (send me your email if you want in) and let them post their favorite music for a week. By getting rid of the middle man (me) I intend on bringing to life my initial image of dTunes, a place where the community can enrich itself and create a better understanding on the individual members of the community by exploring their personal tastes.

Basically, I want to put the unity in community.
