Part 1: The Early Years
Part 2: PC Gaming
The Dark Ages
Then I had a falling out with games almost all together. During my first year in college I had to sell my PC to afford tuition. I would play off and on for the next 3 years. Some friends had a PSX, but mostly played Ridge Racer on that. Another friend had a Genesis. I also ran one of the computer labs on campus and was able to sneak in friends for some RTS LAN goodness. During my last year and a half of college most of this took a back seat as I was trying to actually not fail out, having to work all the time on top of my school work, and a new girlfriend (now wife).
During these dark years my feelings towards gaming changed. Gaming was no longer a top priority for me as my attitude and life had changed dramatically. After getting out of college, I started working for this awesome company that was mostly Mac based. This was right before OS X came, I still hated OS9 with a passion, but they did have some games that we would LAN game together. Most notably Carmageddon. Carmageddon was probably the most fun I have ever had LAN gaming. You could play 6 people and you could pile-drive pedestrians into the other players! I don't know if it was a blast because of the game or the people I was playing with, but it all added up to alot of WIN!
It was shortly after this I was able to afford things. I bought the Dreamcast, but it didn't see alot of love from me. (I know, I still sucked). I was really hooked on Quake 3 Arena as it was the first FPS that didn't give me a headache. I was still holding back all this time, still not allowing my heart to love games like I once did.
At this point in my gaming relationship I had to fall back in love with consoles. It was a long road, I slowly stopped PC gaming altogether, as I was falling in love with OS X. I bought a Gamecube and I avoided the PS2 only because I was a bit of a Nintendo fanboy (which I have now resolved for the most part). During this time I was starting to play more, but I would really only game with other people, because that is what my last 8 years of LAN gaming had taught me. Playing in person with others rocked... I just couldn't find the desire or time to play anything by myself. I also couldn't get into MMO's because that made no sense to me. Why the hell would I want to play with a bunch of people I don't know, and would likely never meet. The single player games would allude me for a little longer, but things were going to change soon...
Favorite Games of the Dark Ages (a short... sad list):

Part 4: Seeing the Light (conclusion)
Oh btw, when I read this quote ... "having to work all the time on top of my school work, and a new girlfriend (now wife). ... the wording of it all just made me laugh.
Well there was your problem. Ursines make terrible gaming platforms. There are no decent exclusives and then there's also the often overlooked flaw of them trying to maul you to death while playing.
4, Just one left... and I suck at English.
I was going to do one article, but it was too long I thought. So it divided up nicely into the 4 areas.
Ah, Carmageddon. I remember many hours of goofing off in computer class with that game, smashing blocky pedestrians into a bloody mess.
That was supposed to be a play on words since the water in the fridge says Great Bear... ie Bear = Bare (as in bare like an empty fridge). Ok, it was a bit of a stretch, but it made sense in my head.
