Okay, HD DVD is dead, who didn't see that coming? I was emailing all the details to my dad yesterday (who bought a HD DVD player a few months back) saying that the cheapest Blu Ray player that I've seen is $399. I also just jokingly said "which is convenient for Sony since thats the price of a PS3." So it is very likely that me along with my family will be getting a Blu Ray player sooner than later. But I then reminded myself, if I was to buy something like a PS3, I would want its first function to be games not to be a Blu Ray player.
With this thought in mind, I went to the coming soon section of gamestop's website just to see if there were any games coming out that would validate me in buying a PS3. Aside from Little Big Planet (which I will say looks fucking amazing) it's a big "no" for me. I was looking through all the games and seeing either multiplats that I'd rather play on my 360, or niche exclusives that don't appeal to me.
-Metal Gear Solid 4: Not a fan of the whole stealth action gameplay
-Grand Turismo 5: Don't like racing games (with exception to Mario Kart) and when they go sim, I go to sleep.
-Haze: New IP, honestly doesn't look that great to me. Probably wouldn't have bought it if it was still coming to the 360. Plus I'm starting to get tired of FPS
-Killzone 2: Being blindly hyped, first one sucked, again FPS market is getting over saturated
-Resistance 2: 60 multiplayer is tempting, but once again FPS.
-Final Fantasy XIII: sure as hell isn't coming this year, kotaku is reporting may be as late as 2010, that's promising.
Sure there are games coming out, but coming from a person who owns the other two systems and had high skepticism about the PS3 from the start, there is nothing that is making me want to jump to get a PS3 now.
Yes, I would like a Blu Ray player, but I don't want to buy a PS3 for the purpose of that. At this point I'd much rather buy a Blu Ray attachment for the 360 which will obviously now come out, and will obviously be cheaper than a PS3. Then by the time the 360 is dead, stand alone Blu Ray players will be probably around $199, if not sooner. I really don't like the marketing around the systems this generation, IE Sony marketing the PS3 as a Blu Ray player and Nintendo marketing the Wii as a family device. I want to fucking play games, thats it, thats really all I care about. Love them or hate them, you have to admit, Microsoft has for the most part put games first on the 360 and I commend them for that.
'nuff said!
It all has to do with what style of games you like and you noted that as I am interested in most of the game you listed.
Could just be since I'm still on an SDTV until this weekend. FINALLY getting an HDTV!
I may pick up a PS3 in the near future, but I want more incentive to buy one.
I'll get my gratuitous violence fill with Ninja Gaiden 2, plus I'd actually like to see a game before I'd want it.
@mix
yeah, I mean there are obviously good games coming out for it. but like you said it all depends on what you like, and I'm just not really into those games. So I'm not gonna jump ship because others like the games.
But if you get a PS3 for primarily Blu-Ray. Make sure you run the firmware updates. Seeing as one of them upgrades the BR Drive to 1.1 and enhances the playback obviously.
For me, my incentive at first was I love movies and wanted a blu-ray player since more of the movies I wanted were out for blu-ray over HD. The reason I have since fallen in love is the better quality graphics (IMO), the operating system is a lot smoother and nice, and because I think it has more of a shelf life than the 360.
plus it's nice to not have to pray that it won't crap out before turning it on each time (unlike rrod and 360.).
Absolutely right. I love my PS3
After playing the first two God of Wars, I don't need to question the third, not one bit. Heck, I'd buy a PSP for God of War PSP if it wasn't coming out for the PS2. whooops!
that's right, I'm talking to YOU Devil May Cry 2!
Please don't crush them!
n playing online is free?
I'm happy with mine. I bought it primarily for the movies, found out it has a competent media player in there (the video playback features are SO much better than the 360...)
I'm very pleased with the purchase. Everyone has their opinions on how it is, but for the games that are coming, I'm excited over some but hold reservations for none. Until I can verifiably know that any game I want will playback in 1080i, I don't get psyched over it on the PS3.
If you like Ratchet and Clank that is also a fun and great looking game.
Heavenly Sword is a toss up, probably a rent for most people, but the voice performance is incredible, and the game plays and looks great as well.
The other games I have for it are multiplatform, but all look and play great.
If the upcoming lineup of games doesn't interest you then so be it, I feel the same way about games on the 360. Great games, but most don't interest me enough to go out and buy one.
However, if I didn't have a PS3 already I would definatly get one for MGS4, or if I needed more time to get some funds together Little Big Planet is a definate must have, looks like it will be a complete blast.
Perhaps you just aren't a fan of the PS3. Different strokes for different folks.
p.s. Blindside: There's only one GoW and it's not Gears. Old school gameplay with next gen graphics and level design? WIN!!
I haven't recieved my Copy of...
The Club or Dynasty Warriors 6 & L8R...
Lost Planet : Extreme Conditions.
( Oh yeah my 8 PSN Games too. ) Cheers!
The slew of titles released between August and now are great. Much like Sadie, I haven't touched my 360 in a while now. It's hard to enjoy games if you're constantly worried about your system bricking on you.
Add in the fact that I can play PS1, PS2, and original PSN titles in addition to the ever growing PS3 library. I'm more than satisfied as far as gaming needs.
I just picked up Dynasty Warriors 6 and The Club! They're sitting here on my desk, looking at me, taunting me. Grr...
tell me how The Club is, i'm not completely sold yet.
@covah
...Have you played on a PS3??
Na, its got good some good games but nothing stellar, there's no games on it that make me say "Damn I need a PS3", once one shows up I'll buy one.
Agreed on MGS at least, that series has been crap since MGS2, its Sony's Halo, sells on hype and hype alone regardless of quality.
I'll send you a private message tomorrow with my impressions.
Not fair...
I'm getting The Club delivered to Mi Casa Manyana! & picking up Dynasty Warriors 6 this weekend.
Not Fair...
BTW : High Multipliers Away!
yes, I know a few people who have PS3s. I've pretty much played all the big games out for it now, I liked some of them, especially uncharted, but the games that I liked would seem more of a rent to me if I had it myself.
don't forget, i want to know!
@covah
i don't know then...i guess you just suck ;)
Personally I agree with Covah. The only big titles on the PS3 I really want to play are MGS4, FFXIII (and even then, Lost Odyssey has me pretty sated right now for JRPGs, and I don't think the new FF team will be able to make a better game), and Uncharted. I can wait until the PS3 is 200 bucks before I buy one; there are plenty of games to play on my 360 for now.
@FinalFist I wish people would stop making the FPS comments cause they are simply not true. And lets be fair even the PS3 is really just as FPS saturated but there are tons of other types of games for both. This is probably due to the popularity of online gaming and FPS's ability to fill that niche nicely.
I really can't wait for LBP but that is the main big title that intrigues me. Haze has potential and Resistance 2 I will get cause I like Insomniacs work and I suspect GOW PS3 will be good also(@covah really how do we know any game is going to be good GOW, LBP, Gears2, SSBB we know what to expect but we watch the reviews and feedback too). But I am ready for some of the smaller gems to start shining out the ones that you don't see coming are often the best. I think with the year the PS3 will have a pretty diverse back catalog of games and plenty to keep anyone busy. But for me I own all 3 and will enjoy all their exclusives.
Here's a revelation to all of you about people who own 360's:
When we play games, we play games. We don't worry about bricking or not.
"It's hard to enjoy games if you're constantly worried about your system bricking on you.
" Yeah I think about that everytime I frag a guy in Call of Duty.
If you don't like the games on that system, that's cool with me, I don't care. I'm planning on getting a PS3 eventually too, but right now I play the shit out of my 360 and I have no problems. So stop with all the fanboy crap and let's just play.

Man, the PS3 crowd are better peebles than the M$ crowd, go figure!
What, are you declaring war on the whole 360 community now? I hope when I get a PS3 there isn't ignorant blatant hate and comments like that.
I'm with covah. I don't see any big reasons to get one right now. The only exclusive game I'd consider buying is Uncharted, which really isn't worth $450. I'll definitely wait until the library fills out a little better.
I'm sorry, I just love my PS3 a little too much :(
Also, theres plenty of things on the 360 that aren't shooters, Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey are both great RPGs.
Sorry if I insulted you covah.
Don't worry Sadie, I'm not mad or anything. I'm glad you are enjoying your PS3, that's cool. I just get tired of people trying to justify their choice in their favorite console by putting the other consoles down.
thats why console wars don't bother me, i win either way.
I want a PS3MO. Hopefully by Summer time.
Just sayin...
Do you "own" 62 PS3 games, or did you just count how many games are out? I am curious to know as I own like, 11 PS3 or something....
