Amid all the crazy Comic Con booth babes, swag, and what not, Top Cow
announced that a follow up to The Darkness is in development.
I'm actually legitimately excited about this news. I don't know if its right to call the original The Darkness game "underrated" but I definitely think it was under-appreciated. It featured awesome gameplay, great voice acting, and was one of the few games that I actually cared about the characters in.
And referring to that last point, I feel the game did it the best of any possibly. In my opinion, the game didn't
force you to like Jackie's girlfriend Jenny, it simply allowed you to. If you wanted to spend time with her on the couch watching TV, you could, if not, fuck it it didn't matter. And then... well I won't spoil it for those who haven't played it, but wow. I don't think I've ever been more mad at a video game villain any more.
So if this game improves the core shooting mechanics, along with better open world type gameplay and character interactions, we're going to have a top notch game on our hands it seems.
I'm excited.
Any other details other than it's getting made? I think the ending was left open ended but I don't remember. Oh well, I'll find out soon enough.
MAYBE SPOILER: You spend the entire game building up bad-ass powers, then get to watch Jackie use them in cut-scenes instead of getting to use them yourself. So lame.
Also, more Mike Patton(hopefully)! Fuck yeah!
*SPOILER*
WWI-style hell levels were great.
All they need to do is keep it consistent (and make it longer) and it'll be perfect.
These two things MADE this game for me :)
