Most people, when a new year arrives, make resolutions to better their lives, such as excercising more, eating healthier, making more money, etc. Well Destructoid, For this coming year I have come up with a list of promises I have made myself concerning gaming and the Destructoid community in general. Now, I know it's still 2007, but face it. I'm probably going to be drunk as hell on New Years, and hung over the day after. So consider this a preemptive strike at 2008.
Expand my gaming horizons.
Due to being in college, and having 3 male non-gaming roommates, I have always made somewhat "macho" gaming purchases. Before this year, I thought guitar rhythm games were totally lame, and now I have bought Guitar Hero 2 & 3, and Rock Band. But there still remains a threshold of which games I won't be caught dead playing. (I'm looking at you, Katamari and Viva Pinata) I would like to try more games out this year that previously I would have shunned.
Finish more games.
Look, I love video games. Fucking
love them. But as I've gotten older, it seems like it has been harder for me to stick with them. I don't know if my attention span's getting shorter, or what. But Out of all the games I have bought in the last year, I have probably finished a minority of them. So, this year, I vow to finish my games, no matter what other games I buy or how redundant they become.
Participate in more FNF's.
As witnessed
last night, I sometimes have problems participating in Friday Night Fights. As sad as it is, I can probably count the number of FNF's I have been in on one hand. Usually the temptation of drinking with the boys draws me away from the house on Friday nights, but at least every other weekend, I will abstain and interact with you fine folk. I mean, what's the point of being in a gaming community if you don't game with them?
Quit getting rid of games.
Usually I am good about this. I learnt my lesson as a kid, when I would sell the last gen console and games in order to buy the next gen selection. As a result of this, I have vowed to keep all the games I purchase, however shitty they may be, as getting rid of them is just not worth it. However, twice this year, I have faltered, and tempted by new releases, have traded in a handful of games just so I would have money the coming Tuesday. About a day after, I already felt the remorse, and this year I am not going to give in.
Meet more DToiders.
Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to spend two quality days with CronosBlade, Itemforty, DVDdesign, and Blehman, drinking, gaming, and sausaging. More recently, on a merely by chance run-in, I met everyone's favorite underage DToider, Electro lemon. While it has been wonderful to meet these guys, this new year there is nothing I would like more of you DToiders. I might even have the chance to meet Greybush at SXSW, which if you need something to compare it to, would be like Chad getting to meet a talking dolphin. (read: It would be AMAZING)
Yeah... I've REALLY got to stop doing that.
An admirable list, and I totally agree with the whole "finish more games" sentiment.
*rubs eyes*
I was going to put myself on a game buying freeze after my last purchase. Then i bought TC:New Blood the other day. I probably won't beat that one either.
