[Yes, I tried to publish this a few days ago but I was having format problems. It is fixed now, so enjoy.]
If you're here looking for another blog talking about 2008's video games, I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed. Anyone can write down their top 10 video games of the year with a small reason why to accompany them. Besides, for the most part, the gaming community agrees which games were the best to come out, no one's breaking ground talking about how Left 4 Dead is better than Legendary.
No, today I am going to talk about 2008 as it pertains to Destructoid and myself. Almost exactly one year ago today I posted
this blog. In it I talked a little bit about 2007, but mostly I discussed what I wanted to accomplish in 2008.
I laid out 5 goals for myself, which were "Expand my gaming horizons", "Finish more games", "Participate in more FNF's", "Quit getting rid of games", and finally "Meet more DToiders". Now, I would love to say here that I have gotten better in all of these areas but that would be a lie.
I have started playing more games like Lego Batman and Persona 3 in front of people, but I still cringe at the thought of playing Viva Pinata in front of my roommates.
I certainly haven't beaten a majority of my games, still, but looking back I question the validity of that goal. People should play games to enjoy them, not to progress in them, and if I'm not enjoying a game, I quit playing it, not caring if I don't beat it.
If there's one goal I'm sorry that I didn't accomplish, it was the FNF one. Not that I don't want to play with DToiders, but being an active guy in college I simply have very busy weekends. It sucks, but that's the way it is.
One thing I am proud of is that I can say that I have not traded or Goozexed a game away since I made that post. My game collection is rapidly growing, which is always awesome.
The big thing I did excel in, though, I most certainly did get to meet more DToiders. I have met probably half the staff/editors, and I would estimate 100 DToiders. I attended the Cinci NARP, PAX 08, hosted a TX NARP and helped organize another one in Dallas. I would say that this goal is way more important than the others, and the progress I've made on it overshadows all of the other ones I might not have met. It has been a pleasure to meet all of you, and I hope in 2009 I will meet many more of you. I won't be wasting time, as I'm leaving for CES on the 7th of January, less than a week away.
So am I going to keep the same 5 goals for 09? No. My one goal for 09 can be laid out in one sentence. To stay involved in Destructoiders, meet more DToiders, enjoy video games, and have a good time. Happy New Years!

Isn't coonskin like... a hat made out of raccoon pelts or something?
My goal for this year is to stop being a total ass to everyone I talk to. Seriously, I'm such a dick.
PAX09? Another NARP that isn't far? Maybe this year I'll get to attend for sure :P
2008 shall be remembered as the year of the Necros on fire.
